In Zimbabwe, there have been no chlamydiosis and limited brucellosis studies in goats. This study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence and risk factors of the two diseases in goats at three different livestock–wildlife interface areas: porous, non-porous and non-interface in the south-eastern lowveld of Zimbabwe. Collected sera (n = 563) were tested for Brucella antibodies using the Rose Bengal plate test (RBPT) and the complement fixation test (CFT); and for Chlamydia abortus antibodies using the CFT. All tested goats were negative for Brucella antibodies. Overall, chlamydial seroprevalence was 22%. The porous [c2 = 9.6, odds ratio (OR) = 2.6, p = 0.002] and non-porous (c2 = 37.5, OR = 5.8, p < 0.00001) interfaces were approximately three and six times more likely to be chlamydial seropositive than the non-interface area, respectively. Chlamydial seroprevalence was not associated with sex (c2 = 0.5, OR = 1.2, p = 0.5), abortion history in female goats (c2 = 0.7, OR = 1.3, p = 0.4), keeping goats with cattle (c2 = 0.2, OR = 1.5, p = 0.7) or flock size (c2 = 0.03, OR = 1.4, p = 0.9). Our study provides the first serological evidence of chlamydiosis in goats in Zimbabwe and the results suggest that proximity to wildlife is associated with increased chlamydial seropositivity. Further studies are required to determine the role of chlamydial infection on goat reproductive failure and that of wildlife on C. abortus transmission to domestic ruminants.

Analysis of veterinary and sanitary examination and quality of cattle slaughter products after cattle clamidiosis was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus from April, 2004 till January, 2006. Over all these research periods there were studied 1579 cattle heads and their slaughter products. The usual salting of meat and other products with the purpose of their clearing from chlamydiosis was unsuitable for practical application. Due to long-term (1,5-9 months) persistence of chlamydia in parenchymal organs for the prevention of people infection and chlamydiosis spreading it is necessary to realize slaughter of diseased animals at a diseased animal slaughter house or in a killing department at the end of working shift with observance of measures of individual preventive maintenance and the subsequent disinfection of a premise, the equipment, stock and tools.

Analysis of manifestation of chlamydial infection of cattle in the conditions of forage affect with mycotoxins was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. Research results showed that chlamydial infection proceeded in association with aflatoxin, T-2 toxin, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone and ochratoxin. In course of the biochemical analysis there was noted the lowering of carotene on 23%, and vitamin A – in two times; also there was slight lowering of alkaline reserve. The obtained data proved the substantial changes in content of sub-populations of lymphocytes in cow blood in dry and postnatal period. During the immunological study of immunoglobulins in blood serum of cows sick with postpartum chlamydial endometritis it was revealed that titre of immunoglobulin A was on 31% higher. Level of immunoglobulins G and M differed slightl

Study of subclinical chlamydial endometritis of black and motley cows of 2-5 lactations with 5000-6000 kg milk per year was realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus. Research results showed that reaction of pH medium of uterus content of healthy ill cows with subclinical chlamydial endometritis did not change and was within the limits of 8. Diagnostics of subclinical chlamydial endometritis during estrum was realized according to presence of estrous mucus in purulent inclusions, as well as of neutrophil in tissue smear and by colouring by Stamp of tissue smears from a uterine lining and in serological reactions. In inter-estrous cycle it was possible to establish a latent chlamydial endometritis according to slightly opened uterus channel, state of uterus walls and presence of yellow bodies in an ovary, increasing of titers in antibodies in two and more times in dual tests of serum.
