The article reveals developments of national resources of cutting lettuce of Lactuca sativa var. secalina L. varieties and methods for new varieties development involving breeding forms of Oakleaf group. Exotic forms of common knowledge varieties of Oakleaf group of salad were researched, newly developed Dublianskiy variety was applied for the official research and technical examination of plant varieties with the view of the variety official listing, as well as the rights thereof. Description of morphological description of characteristics was applied that would enable identifying new variety during the examination for distinctness, uniformity and stability. Summary of the studying value for cultivation and use of Dublianskiy variety (yield, maturity group, taste properties, tasting score, disease resistance) which is provided, which establishes working algorithm for cutting lettuce variety in various ecological gradients of its cultivation.

Мета. Обґрунтувати застосування коефіцієнта фенотипової стабільності Левіса (S.F.) для визначення стабільності прояву кількісних і господарсько-цінних ознак національних сортів батату (Ipomoea batatas L.).Методи. Польові дослідження з комплексної оцінки нових сортів батату здійснювали протягом 2021–2022 рр. в умовах Інституту овочівництва і баштанництва НААН (Харківська обл.). Проведено фенологічні спостереження та біометричні вимірювання рослин, а також фіксацію метеорологічних даних упродовж вегетації, зокрема в міжфазні періоди культури. Стабільність досліджуваних ознак визначали у спосіб пошуку граничних значень їх прояву (Xmax і Xmin) та подальшого розрахунку коефіцієнта фенотипової стабільності Левіса (SF).Результати. Застосування коефіцієнта фенотипової стабільності Левіса (SF) дало змогу визначити стабільність прояву морфологічних ознак сортів батату (Ipomoea batatas L.), зокрема кількісних характеристик бульб: їх чисельність під кущем для сорту ‘Адмірал’ – 5,3 шт., для ‘Слобожанський рубін’ – 3,7 шт.; середня маса бульби – 254 і 283 г відповідно. Ознака «індекс форми бульб батату» забезпечила стабільність із коефіцієнтом 0,98 (‘Адмірал’) і 1,03 (‘Слобожанський рубін’). Стабільність прояву морфологічних ознак бульб батату встановлено для поширених на території України сортів ‘Адмірал’ і ‘Слобожанський рубін’. Вони репрезентують дві групи стиглості, а тому різняться за тривалістю періоду формування бульб. Так, ранньостиглий ‘Адмірал’ має період вегетації 100–110 діб; середньостиглий ‘Слобожанський рубін’ – 110–120 діб.Висновки. Стабільнішою за шириною була кількісна ознака бульби батату сорту ‘Адмірал’; за довжиною – сорту ‘Слобожанський рубін’. Значення довжини бульби варіювалися в межах сортів. Індекс форми бульб батату як ідентифікаційна ознака сортів виявився варіабельно нестабільним; розрахований коефіцієнт фенотипової стабільності Левіса був нижчим за одиницю для обох досліджуваних сортів. | Purpose. To justify the use of the Lewis phenotypic stability factor (SF) to determine the stability of the manifestation of quantitative and economic value characteristics of national varieties of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.).Methods. Field research on the comprehensive assessment of new sweet potato varieties was carried out in 2021–2022 at the Institute of Vegetable and Melon of the NAAS (Kharkiv Region). Phenological observations and biometric measurements of plants were carried out, as well as recording of meteorological data during the growing season, in particular during interphase periods of the culture. The stability of the studied traits was determined by finding the limit values of their manifestation (Xmax and Xmin) and further calculating the Levis phenotypic stability factor (SF).Results. The use of the Levis phenotypic stability factor (SF) made it possible to determine the stability of the manifestation of morphological features of sweet potato varieties (I. batatas), in particular, the quantitative characteristics of tubers: their number under the bush for the variety ‘Admiral’ is 5.3 pcs., for ‘Slobozhanskyi rubin’ – 3.7 pcs.; the average weight of the tuber is 254 and 283 g, respectively. The trait “sweet potato tuber shape index” ensured stability with a coefficient of 0.98 (‘Admiral’) and 1.03 (‘Slobozhanskyi rubin’). The stability of the manifestation of morphological features of sweet potato tubers was established for the varieties ‘Admiral’ and ‘Slobozhanskyi rubin’, which are common in Ukraine. They represent two maturity groups, and therefore differ in the duration of the tuber formation period. Thus, the early-ripening ‘Admiral’ has a vegetation period of 100–110 days; medium-ripening ‘Slobozhanskyi rubin’ – 110–120 days.Conclusions. The quantitative trait of sweet potato tubers of the ‘Admiral’ variety was more stable in terms of width; ‘Slobozhanskyi rubin’ variety – in terms length. Tuber length values varied within cultivars. The shape index of sweet potato tubers as an identification feature of varieties turned out to be variably unstable; the calculated Lewis phenotypic stability factor was lower than unity for both studied varieties.

Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam, also known as sweet potato, is an extremely versatile and delicious vegetable that possesses high nutritional value. It is also a valuable medicinal plant having anti-cancer, antidiabetic, and anti-inflammatory activities. Sweet potato is now considered a valuable source of unique natural products, including some that can be used in the development of medicines against various diseases and in making industrial products. The overall objective of this review is to give a bird's-eye view of the nutritional value, health benefits, phytochemical composition, and medicinal properties of sweet potato. Specifically, this review outlines the biological activities of some of the sweet potato compounds that have been isolated, the pharmacological action of the sweet potato extract, clinical studies, and plausible medicinal applications of sweet potato (along with a safety evaluation), and demonstrates the potential of sweet potato as a medicinal food.

Morphological and nutritional studies were carried out on various parts of the two varieties of Ipomoea batatas (white fleshed TIS 87/0087 and orange fleshed UMUSPO/3) to determine their morphological and nutritional characteristics using standard techniques. Analysis of variance was employed for data analysis. Result revealed that the two varieties had similar qualitative morphological features but showed variation in their length, breadth, colour and girth. The result of the proximate analysis revealed that the nutrients were present in all the parts of the two varieties investigated but in varied proportions. Protein, fat and ash were highest in the leaves of both varieties when compared to other parts (12.13±0.20mg/100g, 3.92±0.14mg/100g and 2.85±0.06mg/100g of I. batatas respectively. Moisture and carbohydrate were highest in the tubers of both varieties when compared to other parts (10.73±0.22mg/100g and 81.22±3.80mg/100g) respectively while crude fiber was highest in the stem of the two varieties when compared to other parts (26.15±0.29mg/100g). Data obtained indicated that these parts of the two varieties contained appreciable amount of nutrients which could be included in diets to supplement our daily nutrient needs and animal feed. Apart from the tuber eaten by our people, other parts of the plant should also be used as food. Overall data could be a viable tool for sweet potato breeding as an improvement in sweet potato production. Morphological characteristics observed were similar indicating that the two varieties are phyllogenetically related. The data could also be used to enhance proper taxonomic characterization and identification of the species I. batatas.

There has been studied the Levis coefficients stability in very short dynamical series. It has been established that we can study the ecological stability of variety even in two years test. There has been pointed the growth absolutly coefficients in long test. Estimation of variety to demand three statistical characteristics - mean, coefficients of stability and elasticity.

<p>The sweet potato (<em>Ipomoea batatas</em> L.) belongs to very important crops from aspect of its world production. It is grown in large areas in Asia, on the contrary, sweet potato production in Europe presents minimal part of its total world rate. The sweet potato is less-known crop, grown only on small area in home gardens in Slovak Republic. Tubers of sweet potato are characterized by anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant and anti-proliferative properties due to the presence of valuable health-promoting components, such as carotenoids or vitamin C. The main objective of study was testing of sweet potato growing in conditions of southern Slovak Republic with focus on quantity and quality of its yield. The field trial was realised on land of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra in 2015. Within trial, effect of cultivar and mulching on the selected quantitative (average tuber weight; yield per plant; yield in t.ha<sup>-1</sup>) and qualitative (total carotenoids; vitamin C) parameters were tested. One certified cultivar of sweet potato 'Beauregard' was used as a comparative cultivar. Other two cultivars were marked according to the market place at which were purchased and sequentially used for seedling preparation. Tubers of first un-known cultivar were purchased in the Serbian market (marked as 'Serbian'). Tubers of next sweet potato cultivar were purchased on the market in Zagreb (marked as 'Zagrebian'). Outplating of sweet potato seedlings were realised on the 19th May 2015. The sweet potato was grown by hillock system. Each cultivar was planted in two variants (rows): non-mulching (bare soil) and mulching by black non-woven textile. All variants were divided to three replications with 6 plants. Difference between rows was 1.20 m and seedlings were planted in distance of 0.30 m in row. The harvested tubers were classified in two size classes: >150 g (marketable yield) and <150 g (non-marketable yield). Total carotenoid content was determined spectrophotometrically. The vitamin C content was measured chromatographically (HPLC). The highest values of average tuber weight, yield per plant and total yield (t.ha<sup>-1</sup>) were found in cultivar 'Serbian'. Statistical analysis showed statistically significant difference in all yield quantitative parameters of cultivar 'Serbian' against cultivars 'Beauregard' and 'Zagrebian'. The highest content of total carotenoids was determined in cultivar 'Serbian' (99.52 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup> fresh weight) with orange-creme flesh color, followed by cultivar 'Beauregard' (94.78 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup>) with orange flesh color and cultivar 'Zagrebian' (28.79 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup>) with yellow-creme flesh color. Differences among all cultivars were showed as statistically significant. The highest vitamin C content was detected in tubers of cultivar 'Serbian' (155.70 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup>), followed by cultivar 'Beauregard' (154.37 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup>) and cultivar 'Zagrebian' (146.33 mg.kg<sup>-1</sup>). Statistical analysis confirmed differences among cultivars as statistically non-significant. The mulching of sweet potato plants had statistically significant impact to all quantitative and qualitative characteristics of sweet potato. The application of black non-woven textile resulted in increase of average tuber weight, tuber yield and vitamin C content in sweet potato tubers. On the contrary, higher total carotenoid content was found in non-mulching variant compared to the variant with mulching. </p> <!--[endif] -->
