Purpose. To analyse of the denomination practice of the main species and subspecies of wheat.Results. Modern systems of the genus Triticum are based on different morphological and genetic criteria, and number from 7 (10) to 27 species. In Ukraine there are cultivated species and subspecies: common wheat (T. aestivum), dwarf wheat (T. aestivum subsp. sphaerococcum; T. sphaerococcum), club wheat (T. aestivum subsp. compactum; T. compactum), spelt (T. aestivum subsp. spelta; T. spelta), einkorn (T. monococcum L.), durum (T. durum; T. turgidum subsp. durum), Persian wheat (T. carthlicum; T. turgidum subsp. carthlicum, T. persicum), Polish wheat (T. polonicum, T. turgidum subsp. polonicum), and emmer (T. turgidum subsp. dicoccon), or Farro wheat (T. farrum, T. dicoccon, T. dicoccum). Next to the system of botanical names, there is an agrobiological one, which is based on the crop names, but is less ordered. Historically, it, like the botanical one, arose from the trivial names of plants, but was formed spontaneously and still remains unnormalized and unsystematic. Because of this, the same taxon may have more than a dozen names that are used by different authors in agronomy. At the same time, the correct translation of the species name T. aestivum – pshenytsia litnia (in Ukrainian) is found in only one source out of fourteen analyzed. The translation of Latin subspecies level trinomials by Ukrainian binomials smooths the differences between the morphological and genetic systems of the genus Triticum. In the scientific style of the Ukrainian language, the direct word order dominates in which the adjective precedes the noun, with the exception of the scientific species names of plants. This makes it easy to distinguish names that refer to different terminological systems. "Tverda pshenytsia" (in Ukrainian) is the crop name in the agrobiological nomenclature, and "pshenytsia tverda" (in Ukrainian) is the species name in the botanical nomenclature.Conclusions. Due to the processing of etymology, the Ukrainian scientific names of the main wheat taxa, which correspond to the original Latin names, are streamlined. In an unorganized agrobiological system of names of agricultural plants, a mixture of botanical names of taxa and crop names is used, which sometimes coincide to some extent. The crop names and the names of taxa differ from each other, respectively, direct and reverse word order in Ukrainian language. An erroneous or unconscious substitution of some names with others and neglect of the rules of the Ukrainian language leads to undesirable confusion. It can be overcome on the basis of observance of the standards of the literary Ukrainian language and the Rules of Plant Nomenclature, Taxonomy and Cultonomy. | Мета. Это позволяет легко различать названия, которые относят к разным терминосистемам. «Твердая пшеница» является названием культуры в агробиологической номенклатуре, а «пшеница твердая» это видовое название в ботанической номенклатуре.Выводы. Вследствие обработки этимологии упорядочены украинские научные названия основных таксонов пшеницы, которые отвечают оригинальным латинским названиям. В неорганизованной агробиологической системе названий сельскохозяйственных растений используют смесь ботанических названий таксонов и названий культур, которые иногда в той или иной степени совпадают. Названия культур и названия таксонов различаются между собой, соответственно прямым и обратным порядком слов. Ошибочная или неосознанная подмена одних названий другими и пренебрежение к правилам украинского языка приводит к нежелательной путанице. Ее можно преодолеть соблюдая нормы литературного украинского языка и Правила номенклатуры, таксономии и культономии растений.

Formation of the Ukrainian generic names on the basis of specific epithets leads to undesirable tautonomy. Aspects of derussification of the Ukrainian professional terminology are discussed. Ukrainian scientific generic and nothogeneric plant names for subtribe Malinae are transliterated/transcripted, borrowed as a calque of latin names or have their own origin, consisting of one or two words. The choice of the best variants of generic and species names from a number of possible ones has a temporal component and largely depends on experts who apply them and basic principles of choice. Results. Cultivar names as a special category require preservation of primary graphics or sound type in the other language. This can be achieved by direct inclusion of the original name to the Ukrainian text or by practical transcribing, but not by transliteration or translation. Otherwise, Ukrainian names should be transliterated for inclusion to the texts in Latin characters. Transcription/transliteration in both directions is performed from the source language, though, as practice shows, in some Ukrainian publications the Russian is wrongly used as an intermediary language. Some national scientific publications ignore the recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants that is not conducive to the success of scientific communication in the globalized world. Conclusions. The foreign names of plant varieties should be entered into the Ukrainian text keeping the original spelling or by means of practical transcription. The loan of foreign names is performed by transcribing directly from the source language; if the language doesn’t have the Latin alphabet, Latinized name transcription is acceptable. Recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants that concern graphic highlighting of the cultivar names in the text enclosing them in single quotation marks and writing each word of a cultivar name with a capital letter should necessarily be applied in the foreign-language publications and extended to the Ukrainian special literature, at least, in terms of the use of single quotation marks. Ukrainian names should be transliterated only in accordance with the regulations.

The analysis of wheat and rye hybrids naming.Results. Each botanical taxon, within certain limits, has to be of one correct name, which is initial and in the line with the requirements of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature for algae, mushrooms and plants. For Secale × Triticum hybrids, this name is ×Triticosecale. In 1899 Ludwig Wittmack introduced the name Triticosecale publishing it in the materials of the scientific society in Berlin. The publication did not contain references to the Latin names of parental genera, so this name became valid only after publication in 1927, when this disadvantage was corrected by Amy Camus. Other names (×Triticale, ×Tritisecale, ×Secalotricum, ×Secalotriticum) are of secondary priority to ×Triticosecale, as they were published later and therefore are superfluous. Nevertheless, the name Triticale has become widespread and is a common name for a new crop - triticale. In the Ukrainian and Russian specialized literature, the term triticale is used controversially as words of masculine, feminine or neuter genders, so the variety names are of different grammatical genders. The breeders successfully implemented direct and reciprocal crossing of several species of wheat and rye, giving many Latin names for triticale hybrids. Many of these names are formally similar to species names, but usually do not meet the requirements of the nomenclature code and are illegal. Only some of the proposed names are published, but they are not widely used in agronomic practice. At the same time, assigning illegal names to the new triticale hybrids that do not meet nomenclature requirements and increases confusion is still practiced.Conclusions. According to the Rules of the Ukrainian language, the word triticale relates to the neuter grammar gender. It represents a new field crop and is the Ukrainian conformity to the nothogeneric name ×Triticosecale. Most species and sub-species names proposed by breeders for triticale do not meet the requirements of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature for algae, mushrooms and plants. For ordering the varietal diversity of triticale names, it is worthwhile to apply the recommendations of the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants, which standardizes the names of varieties and their groups.

The registered varieties of fruit plants in Ukraine belong to 48 crops. Formation of names of fruit crops has begun in ancient times and is continuing until now. Crop names, as a rule, consist of one word; two-word names occur as an exception, if so, an adjective should be places ahead of a noun. Names of fruit crops and the name of botanic taxa are specific, belong to different terminological systems and perform different functions.

Crop names, as a rule, consist of one word; two-word names occur as an exception, if so, an adjective should be places ahead of a noun. Names of fruit crops and the name of botanic taxa are specific, belong to different terminological systems and perform different functions.

Purpose. Reviewing a history of formation and current state of the national nomenclature and streamlining the Ukrainian scientific species names for the genus Fragaria L. Results. Controversial attitudes towards the use of names «sunytsi» (= garden strawberry) and «polunytsi» (= hill strawberry) are inherently present in the Ukrainian nomenclature of the genus Fragaria L. The Ukrainian scientific names of species of this group of plants should be brought into line with the generic name “Sunytsi” in plural. Nothogeneric name x Fragophora Mezhenskyj (= Dasiphora Rafin. x Fragaria L.) is proposed. Conclusions. In a professional environment it is necessary to use only scientific names of species of the genus Fragaria – Sunytsi (= garden strawberry) that is used in plural in Ukrainian. Concerning garden strawberry, in every day life and popular literature the usage of a derivative sunytsia (in Ukrainian) in singular as well as polunytsia, polunytsi (in Ukrainian) may be permissible.

Purpose. Reviewing a history of formation and current state of the national nomenclature and streamlining the Ukrainian scientific species names for the genus Fragaria L. Results. Controversial attitudes towards the use of names «sunytsi» (= garden strawberry) and «polunytsi» (= hill strawberry) are inherently present in the Ukrainian nomenclature of the genus Fragaria L. The Ukrainian scientific names of species of this group of plants should be brought into line with the generic name “Sunytsi” in plural. Nothogeneric name x Fragophora Mezhenskyj (= Dasiphora Rafin. x Fragaria L.) is proposed. Conclusions. In a professional environment it is necessary to use only scientific names of species of the genus Fragaria – Sunytsi (= garden strawberry) that is used in plural in Ukrainian. Concerning garden strawberry, in every day life and popular literature the usage of a derivative sunytsia (in Ukrainian) in singular as well as polunytsia, polunytsi (in Ukrainian) may be permissible.

To analyse the modern classification and nomenclature of species of pome fruit crops which varieties are listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine, and improve terminological system of the Ukrainian names of both species and garden crops. Results. Fruit cultivars and most apple clonal rootstocks belong to Malus pumila, and ornamental cultivars belong to Malus gloriosa. The most common scientific name of the cultivated apple, especially among horticulturists, is Malus domestica, although according to the principle of priority the name Malus pumila should have the advantage. As far as Nomenclature Committee for Vascular Plants has rejected the proposal to conserve the name Malus domestica, Malus pumila is correct name for the cultivated apple. The use of synonymic name Malus domestica should be avoided in both scientific and scientific-popular papers for stability of nomenclature. Pear cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine are presented by Pyrus communis, and pear rootstocks – by Cydonia oblonga. Fruit cultivars of the latter belong to separate fruit crop named quince. An apple-quince hybrid was registered as universal clonal rootstock for pome fruit crops. The State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine also contains nonconventional fruit crops such as Chaenomeles and hawthorn that consist of some species and nothospecies. Conclusions. In scientific publications one should stop the use of synonymic name Malus domestica in favour of the correct name for cultivated apple Malus pumila. Apple, pears and Chaenomeles cultivars listed in the State Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Dissemination in Ukraine have a complex multispecies origin whereas quince, hawthorn and pear roostock cultivars systematically are monospecies. A universal roootstock of pome fruit crops is Cydolus, or apple-quince, that resulted from interspecies hybridization between quince and apple.
