Purpose. To make comprehensive assessment of introduced oat samples of various eco-geographical origin under the conditions of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine for the set of productivity and adaptability indices in order to define the most valuable ones and describe them. Methods. Field study, laboratory analysis, generalization. Results. The authors presented results of the study, evaluation and description of 35 new samples of oats from 5 countries for productivity and adaptability traits during 2011–2015 in Ustymivka Experimental Station for Plant Production to be run by the V. Ya. Yuriev Institute for Plant Production of NAAS. In field and laboratory conditions, the following indicators as yielding, productivity, thousand-kernel weight, early ripening, height of plants and length of panicle, lodging resistance were stu­died. Conclusions. A set of studies of new oat samples under various weather conditions allowed to identify material with increased parameters of economic and biological characters. During studies, it was found that ‘Laima’, ‘Stendskaia Darta’ (Latvia), ‘Borowiak’ (Poland), ‘Faks’ (Belarus) were the high-yielding varieties. Panicles in such oats samples as ‘Cwal’, ‘Borowiak’ (Poland), ‘Iakov’, ‘Mutika 1077’, ‘Mutika 990’, ‘Irtysh 22’, ‘Pokrovskyі 9’ (Russia), ‘Faks’ (Belarus), ‘Stendskaia Darta’, ‘Stendskaia Mara’ (Latvia) contained a large mass of grains (more than 2,5 g), panicle productivity in these samples was rather high both due to increased amount of grains in it and at the expense of thousand-kernel weight. Analysis of the study results showed that introduced oat samples of various eco-geographical origin were adapted to the Southern Forest-Steppe zone and can be recommended as an initial material in breeding for increasing productive and adaptive capacity.

To study the influence of growing methods for cutting lettuce plants on the weight of commercial heads, indices of yield and quality of freshly harvested products. Methods. Field study, laboratory testing and statistical evaluation. Results. The results of studying peculiarities of head formation in such cutting lettuce varieties as ‘Godar’ (control), ‘Smuhlianka’, ‘Olzhych’ and ‘Dyvohrai’ were shown. Based on the results of phenological observations, the duration of interstage periods of growth and development of cutting lettuce plants was determined for the different growing methods. The model of cutting lettuce of capitata variety for different growing methods was presented in terms of biochemical parameters (content of dry matter, vitamin C, nitrates, amount of sugars). The influence of growing methods for cutting lettuce plants on the commercial head weight, indices of yield and quality of freshly harvested products was studied. Obtained results confirmed that in early ripening varie­ti­es the heads were smaller (150 g) and not dense, in late ripening varieties they were large and dense, weight was 150–500 g. Freshly harvested commercial products of head lettuce in case of seedling cultivation was characterized by a slight increase in dry matter content by 0.15–0.29%. The corresponding pattern was observed for the total sugar content. Its amount was slightly higher: 1.3–1.9% in case of direct sowing and 1.6–1.9% – for seedlings cultivation. The content of ascorbic acid (vitamin C, mg/100 g) was the highest in the ‘Dyvohrai’ variety despite of the method of growing. The largest quantity of nitrates in lettuce heads was in the inner stem (480 mg/kg), while in the middle of the head it was reduced to 110 mg/kg. Conclusions. Freshly harvested heads of cutting lettuce were analyzed for the content of such basic biochemical indices as dry matter, vitamin C, protein, nitrates, amount of sugars. Biochemical characteristics of freshly harvested products of heading lettuce in case of direct sowing and non-seedling methods of growing were within the error being almost identical with minor deviations. According to the study results, a typical model of capitate lettuce variety was designed which will have practical application in qualification examination of plant varieties.

Purpose. To reveal breeding and genetic peculiarities of modern spring barley varieties for the “number of grains per main ear” trait and identify genetic sources of increased combining ability for involving in hybridization. Methods. Investigations were carried out at the V. M. Remeslo Myronivka Institute of Wheat of NAAS of Ukraine. Modern varieties of domestic (‘Virazh’, ‘Talisman Myronivskyi’, ‘Komandor’) and foreign (‘KWS Aliciana’, ‘KWS Bambina’, ‘Zhana’, ‘Explorer’) breeding were involved in crossing for a full (7´7) diallel scheme. Parents and F1 were studied in field conditions during 2014–2016. Results. The analysis of variance of combining ability has shown a significant advantage in varying of general combining ability (GCA) effects. The mean square of specific combining ability (SCA) was significantly less than the GCA, but reliable throughout the years. The reciprocal effect was reliable only in 2014. Stably high effects of GCA during all years of investigations were noted in the varieties ‘KWS Aliciana’ (1.18–1.62) and ‘Virazh’ (1.33–1.48). The variety ‘KWS Bambina’ was characterized by lower but reliable positive effects of GCA (0.43–0.99) as compared to mentioned above. Non-allelic gene interaction was not found, that allowed to calculate the basic parameters of genetic variation. During all years of investigations, dominant effects of genes (H1 and H2) prevailed over the additive (D) ones in phenotypic expression of grain number per main ear. Mean degree of dominance in the experiment (H1/D) has shown overdominance. The same pattern was also distinctive for the index of mean degree of dominance in the loci . The dominance was reliably directed. Dominant effects of genes increased grain content, and recessive ones reduced it. At least 3–4 genes (groups of genes) have been revealed which determined the effects of dominance. At the same time, recessive genes (F<0) or gene effects were prevailed quantitatively in the varieties investigated. A high coefficient of heritability in broad sense (H2 = 0.98) has shown a significant determination of phenotypic variability with genetic factors. The coefficient of heritability in narrow sense (h2 = 0.66–0.68) confirmed that despite the advantage of dominant effects over the additive ones, the contribution of the latter was also significant. Conclusions. The prevalence of dominant effects of genes in the phenotypic expression of the number of grains per main ear causes the need for sufficient sample size of hybrid material and points to the expediency of conducting a more “rigid” selection for phenotype in later generations. At the same time, the considerable contribution of additive effects and high values of heritability indices give reason to predict the efficiency of selections aimed at increasing the trait in created hybrid material. The varieties ‘Virazh’, ‘KWS Aliciana’, ‘KWS Bambina’ should be used as effective genetic sources to increase grain content in combination breeding.

Purpose. To assess introduced samples of drought-resistant species of perennial grasses, select a promising parent material and create on its base high-yielding varie­ ies with economic characters. Methods. Field experiment, laboratory testing. Results. The results of studies on introduction and breeding were given aimed to improve drought tolerance of non-traditional perennial grasses under the conditions of the Right-Bank Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. Based on the selected parent material, varieties were created by the use of hybridization and ecotype breeding methods and then entered into the State Register of plant varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine, among them: intermediate wheatgrass (Elytrigia intermedia (Host) Nevski) – ‘Hors’, crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn.) – ‘Petrivskyi’; meadow brome (Bromus riparia Rehm.) – ‘Boian’; slender wheatgrass (Roegneria trachycaulon (Link) Nevski) – ‘Co­umb’. As compared with conventional, relatively drought-tolerant species of smooth brome (Bromopsis inermis (Leyss.) Holub) – ‘Mars’, increment of dry matter content of these species in the extreme drought conditions of 2011 was increased by 1,52–3,73 t/ha. Under more sufficient moistening conditions of 2012, slender wheatgrass ‘Columb’ was at the level of the сheck variety in terms of this indicator. Other varieties exceeded it by 1.44–3.22 t/ha. The data was given including seed productivity and sowing quality indicators, after-ripening duration and economic fitness of seeds. Conclusions. The use of the recommended varieties of drought-resistant species of perennial grasses as part of grass mixtures will increase significantly the productivity of grasslands and pastures in the current context of climate change.

Methods. Field study, laboratory test, summarizing, analytical approach. Results. Potato varieties entered in the State register of plant varieties suitable to dissemination in Ukraine and new ones especially to be bred at the Institute of Potato Growing of NAAS were studied during the period of 2005–2016 for such basic economic characters as consumptive quality of tubers, content of starch, dry matters, protein, sugar, vitamins, carotenoids and mineral substances as well as aminoacids, color of flesh, suitability for industrial manufacturing of potato products and for purpose of technology. Attention was paid to the good prospects to use varie­ties with purple, blue and red potato tuber flesh with high antioxidant capacity. Potato varieties with above cha­racteristics and their complex combination were defined and described. The requirements of processing industry for potato as a raw material for manufacturing of potato food were given. Conclusions. The major criterion for consumptive qualities of a potato variety and correspondingly division for the commercial use is consumptive quality of tubers, especially content of essential nutrients and their favorable combination, improved taste and cooking quality, high antioxidant capacity, suitability for potato products manufacturing and use for purpose of technology. Potato varieties can be divided for economic purposes into edible, suitable for potato products manufacturing, technical and multipurpose ones.

To establish correlation dependence of influence of such factors as seeding rate, sowing time and seeding methods on yield indicators, as well as individual response of winter wheat varieties to them in case of the ecological system of seed production, that would allow to form elements of intensive varietal technology and obtain the genetically determined productivity potential of the variety in the future. Methods. Weight measuring was used to determine seed yield; the reliability of the experiment results was identified by statistical evaluation, analysis of variance and regression procedure. Results. During the period of investigation, the weather conditions differed significantly both for the temperature regime and the amount of precipitation, but the stability of grain and seed yield over years was the main requirement to varieties, that allowed to study the intergenotypic correlation relationships of crop yield indices and the dynamics of their changes under the effect of ecological factors. In the course of investigation, winter wheat yield indices were fixed annually from 684 plots, which were grouped and analyzed for factors of influence in order to ensure the complete certainty. Conclusions. Variants of investigation were defined for the certified seed yield and environmental factors (sowing time and seeding method, seeding rate), that had strong positive correlation relationships. Seeding rate and seeding method had the greatest impact on 1000 kernel weight. For tille­ring coefficient, varieties depending on the variant of the investigation had a negative close correlation relationship, which was greatly affected by seeding rate. For correlation relationships, winter wheat varieties ‘Bohdana’ and ‘Slavna’ appeared to be the most stable, ‘Chorniava’ and ‘Astarta’ were the most plastic.

Мета. Дослідити вплив строків сівби, мікродобрив та регуляторів росту на біохімічні показники насіння сочевиці. Методи. Польові, лабораторні. Результати. Наведено біохімічні показники якості насіння сочевиці залежно від строків сівби, дії мікродобрив, регуляторів росту та їх поєднання. На формування біохімічних показників насіння сочевиці впливають різні чинники. Вміст сирої клітковини в середньому за роки досліджень був 3,2–3,3% на контрольному варіанті, максимальні значення – 6,9% за застосування Реаком-СР-Бобові + Регоплант за 1-го строку сівби та 8,4% Квантум-Бобові за 2-го строку. На показник вмісту крохмалю в абсолютно сухій речовині насіння найбільше вплинуло застосування регулятора росту Стимпо – 56,5% у 1-й строк сівби та поєднання його з мікродобривом Квантум-Бобові – 54,3% у 2-й строк. Загалом за роки дослідження в насінні сочевиці сорту ‘Лінза’ вміст сирого протеїну був на рівні 26–28%. За комбінованого застосування мікродобрив і регуляторів росту 27,81% – Реаком-СР-Бобові + Стимпо за 1-го строку сівби та від 27,69% – Квантум-Бобові + Регоплант до 28,60% – Реаком-СР-Бобові за 2-го строку. Висновки. Встановлено максимальні показники вмісту сирої клітковини у варіантах з підживленням рослин у фазі бутонізації мікродобривом Квантум-Бобові – 4,5% за 1-го строку сівби і 10,8% за 2-го строку в 2016 р. Максимальний вміст крохмалю в насінні сочевиці в 2016 р. за обох строків сівби був у варіанті із підживленням у фазі бутонізації регулятором росту Стимпо – 58,0 та 55,8% відповідно. У 2017 р. кращі показники були у варіантах Квантум-Бобові та Квантум-Бобові + Регоплант – 55,1% за 1-го строку та у варіанті Реаком-СР-Бобові – 54,3% за 2-го строку. Вміст сирого протеїну в насінні сочевиці в 2016 р. у варіантах Реаком-СР-Бобові + Регоплант – 27,92% за 1-го строку сівби та Реаком-СР-Бобові + Стимпо – 29,93% за 2-го. У 2017 р. у варіанті Регоплант – 28,21% за 1-го та Квантум-Бобові – 28,39% за 2-го строку.

Цель. Исследовать влияние сроков сева, микроудобрений и регуляторов роста на биохимические показатели семян чечевицы.Методы. Полевые, лабораторные.Результаты. Приведены биохимические показатели качества семян чечевицы в зависимости от сроков сева, действия микроудобрений, регуляторов роста и их сочетания. На формирование биохимических показателей семян чечевицы влияют различные факторы. Содержание сырой клетчатки в среднем за годы исследований было 3,2–3,3% в контрольном варианте, максимальные значения – 6,9% при применении Реаком-СР-Бобовые + Регоплант в 1-м сроке сева и 8,4% Квантум-Бобовые – во 2-м сроке. Установлены максимальные показатели содержания сырой клетчатки в вариантах с подкормкой растений в фазе бутонизации микроудобрением Квантум-Бобовые – 4,5% в 1-м сроке сева и 10,8% – во 2-м в 2016 г. Максимальное содержание крахмала в семенах чечевицы в 2016 г. в обоих сроках сева было в варианте с подкормкой в фазе бутонизации регулятором роста Стимпо – 58,0 и 55,8% соответственно. В 2017 г. лучшие показатели были в вариантах Квантум-Бобовые и Квантум-Бобовые + Регоплант – 55,1% в 1-м сроке и в варианте Реаком-СР-Бобовые – 54,3% во 2-м сроке. Содержание сырого протеина в семенах чечевицы в 2016 г. в вариантах Реаком-СР-Бобовые + Регоплант – 27,92% в 1-м сроке сева и Реаком-СР-Бобовые + Стимпо – 29,93% – во 2-м. В 2017 г. в варианте Регоплант – 28,21% в 1-м сроке и Квантум-Бобовые – 28,39% во втором сроке сева. | Мета. Дослідити вплив строків сівби, мікродобрив та регуляторів росту на біохімічні показники насіння сочевиці.Методи. Польові, лабораторні.Результати. Наведено біохімічні показники якості насіння сочевиці залежно від строків сівби, дії мікродобрив, регуляторів росту та їх поєднання. На формування біохімічних показників насіння сочевиці впливають різні чинники. Вміст сирої клітковини в середньому за роки досліджень був 3,2–3,3% на контрольному варіанті, максимальні значення – 6,9% за застосування Реаком-СР-Бобові + Регоплант за 1-го строку сівби та 8,4% Квантум-Бобові за 2-го строку. На показник вмісту крохмалю в абсолютно сухій речовині насіння найбільше вплинуло застосування регулятора росту Стимпо – 56,5% у 1-й строк сівби та поєднання його з мікродобривом Квантум-Бобові – 54,3% у 2-й строк. Загалом за роки дослідження в насінні сочевиці сорту ‘Лінза’ вміст сирого протеїну був на рівні 26–28%. За комбінованого застосування мікродобрив і регуляторів росту 27,81% – Реаком-СР-Бобові + Стимпо за 1-го строку сівби та від 27,69% – Квантум-Бобові + Регоплант до 28,60% – Реаком-СР-Бобові за 2-го строку.Висновки. Встановлено максимальні показники вмісту сирої клітковини у варіантах з підживленням рослин у фазі бутонізації мікродобривом Квантум-Бобові – 4,5% за 1-го строку сівби і 10,8% за 2-го строку в 2016 р. Максимальний вміст крохмалю в насінні сочевиці в 2016 р. за обох строків сівби був у варіанті із підживленням у фазі бутонізації регулятором росту Стимпо – 58,0 та 55,8% відповідно. У 2017 р. кращі показники були у варіантах Квантум-Бобові та Квантум-Бобові + Регоплант – 55,1% за 1-го строку та у варіанті Реаком-СР-Бобові – 54,3% за 2-го строку. To investigate the effect of sowing time, microfertilizers and growth regulators on biochemical indices of lentil seeds.Methods. Field and laboratory ones.Results. Biochemical indices of lentil seed quality are given depending on the influence of sowing time, microfertilizers, growth regulators and their combination. Various factors affected the formation of biochemical indices of lentil seeds. Over the years of investigation, the content of crude fiber on the average was 3.2–3.3% for the control, the maximum value reached 6.9% in case of application of Reakom-SR-Bobovi + Regoplant during the first sowing time and 8.4% when applying Kvantum-Bobovi during the second sowing time. The Stimpo growth regulator influenced most of all on the starch content in the absolutely dry matter of seeds (56.5%) du­ring the first sowing time and when it was combined with microfertilizer Kvantum-Bobovi (54.3%) during the second sowing time. On the whole, the content of crude protein in the lentil seeds of the ‘Linza’ variety was 26–28% over the years of investigation. In case of the combined application of microfertilizers and growth regulators (Reakom-SR-Bo­bovi + Stimpo), the protein content was 27.81% during the first sowing time and from 27.69% (Kvantum-Bobovi + Regoplant) to 28.60% (Reakom-SR-Bobovi) during the second sowing time.Conclusions It was found that the maximum content of crude fiber were in versions with the application of microfertilizer Kvantum-Bobovi for plant nutrition in the bud-formation stage (4.5%) during the first sowing time and 10,8% during the second sowing time in 2016. The maximum content of starch in lentil seeds in 2016 during both sowing periods was 58,0 and 55,8% respectively in the version with the application of a growth regulator Stimpo in the bud-formation stage. In 2017, the highest indices were shown in the versions of Kvantum-Bobovi and Kvantum-Bobovi + Regoplant (55.1%) during the first sowing time and in the version of Reakom-SR-Bobovi (54.3%) during the second sowing time. The content of crude protein in lentil seeds in 2016 for Reakom-SR-Bobovi + Regoplant version was 27.92% during the first sowing time and for Reakom-SR-Bobovi + Stimpo version reached 29.93% during the second sowing time. In 2017, the above index was amounted to 28.21% for the Regoplant version during the first sowing time and 28.39% for the version of Kvantum-Bobovi during the second sowing time.

Дослідити мінливість біометричних показників та продуктивність сортів салату посівного листкового (Lactuca sativa L. var. secalina) голландської селекції на дерново-середньоопідзолених ґрунтах північної частини Лісостепу України. Методи. Польовий, бiометричний, порівняльний, стaтистичний, узагальнення. Результати. Наведено результати досліджень з вивчення особливостей формування продуктивних органів салату посівного листкового сортів ‘Кітонія’, ’Руксай’, ‘Локарно’, ‘Вінтекс’, ‘Експлор’, ‘Аквіно’, ‘Гоген’, ‘Афіцион’ та ‘Конкорд’ голландської селекції на дерново-середньоопідзолених ґрунтах північної частини Лісостепу України. За оцінкою сортів салату посівного на пристосованість до мінливих умов навколишнього середовища встановлено, що висота розетки листків коливалася від 13,7 до 22,3 см; діаметр розетки – від 24,8 до 33,6 см; кількість листків – від 23,2 до 109,9 шт./росл.; середня площа листка – від 36,3 до 122,3 см2; площа листків з однієї рослини – від 1963 до 5033 см2/росл.; середня маса однієї рослини – від 0,215 до 0,480 кг. Найвищу розрахункову врожайність отримано за вирощування сортів ‘Експлор’ і ‘Кітонія’ – 42,7 та 37,4 т/га відповідно, що істотно переважало контроль – на 8,7 та 3,4 т/га. У досліджуваних сортів салату посівного листкового на момент збирання врожаю виявлено прямий сильний зв’язок діаметра розетки листків і висоти рослин (r = 0,8). Між висотою рослин і середньою площею листка та кількістю листків і середньою площею листка також існує пряма сильна залежність зв’язку з коефіцієнтами r = 0,803 і r = 0,762 відповідно. Висновки. Комплексна оцінка ознак продуктивності дев’яти сортів салату посівного листкового голландської селекції на дерново-середньоопідзолених ґрунтах свідчить, що вони цілком придатні для вирощування у відкритому ґрунті в умовах північної частини Лісостепу України. Встановлено, що формування товарного врожаю листків салату посівного листкового значною мірою залежить від сортових особливостей.

Полевой, биомет­рической, сравнительный, стaтистический, обобщения.Результаты.Приведены результаты исследований изучения особенностей формирования продуктивных органов салата посевного сортов ‘Китония’, ‘Руксай’, ‘Локарно’, ‘Винтекс’, ‘Эксплор’, ‘Аквино’, ‘Гоген’, ‘Афицион’ и ‘Конкорд’ голландской селекции на дерново-среднеоподзоленных почвах северной части Лесостепи Украины. По оценке сор­тов салата посевного листового на приспособленность к меняющимся условиям окружающей среды установлено, что высота розетки листьев колебалась от 13,7 до 22,3 см; диаметр розетки – от 24,8 до 33,6 см; количество листьев – от 23,2 до 109,9 шт./раст.; средний размер листа – от 36,3 до 122,3 см2; площадь листьев с одного растения – от 1963 до 5033 см2/раст.; средняя масса одного растения – от 0,215 до 0,480 кг. Самая высокая расчетная урожайность получена при выращивании сортов ‘Эксплор’ и ‘Китония’ – 42,7 и 37,4 т/га соответственно, что существенно превышало контроль – на 8,7 и 3,4 т/га. У исследуемых сортов салата посевного листового на момент сбора урожая установлена прямая сильная связь диаметра розетки листков и высоты растений (r = 0,8). Между высотой растений и средней площадью листка и количеством листков и средней площадью листка также выявлена прямая сильная связь с коэффициентом r = 0,803 и r = 0,762 соответственно.Выводы. Комплексная оценка признаков продуктивности девяти сортов салата посевного листового голландской селекции, выращенных на дерново-среднеоподзоленных почвах, показала, что они вполне пригодны для выращивания в открытом грунте в условиях северной части Лесостепи Украины. Установлено, что формирование товарного урожая листьев салата в значительной степени зависят от сортовых особенностей. | Purpose. To investigate the variability of biometrics indices and productivity of cutting lettuce varietis (Lactuca sativa L. var. secalina) of Dutch breeding on soddy medium podzolic soil in the northern part of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine.Methods. Field, biometric, comparative, statistical ones, generalizations. Results. The results obtained during the study of peculiarities of forming productive organs of cutting lettuce varieties ‘Ketoniia’, ‘Ruxai’, ‘Locarno’, ‘Vinteks’, ‘Explor’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gauguin’, ‘Affinia’ and ‘Concord’ of Dutch breeding on soddy medium podzolic soil in the northern part of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine are given. According to evaluation of cutting lettuce varieties on adaptation to varied environment, it was established that the leaf rosette height varied from 13,7 to 22,3 cm; the leaf rosette diameter – from 24,8 to 33,6 cm; the number of leaves per plant – from 23,2 to 109,9 pcs/plant; the average leaf area – from 36,3 to 122,3 cm2; leaf area per plant – from 1963 to 5033cm2/plant; the average weight of a plant – from 0,215 to 0,480 kg. The highest estimated yield was obtained when ‘Explor’ and ‘Ketoniia’ cutting lettuce varieties were growing – 42,7 and 37,4 t/ha respectively, which significantly exceeded the control by 8,7 and 3,4 t/ha. A strong correlation between the leaf rosette diameter and plant height (r = 0,8) was revealed in investigated cutting lettuce varieties at the time of harvesting. There is also a strong correlation between the plant height and the average area of the leaf and the number of leaves per plant and the average area of the leaf with the coefficients r = 0,803 і r = 0,762 respectively.Conclusions. Comprehensive assessment of the produc­tivity traits of nine cutting lettuce varieties of Dutch breeding on soddy medium podzolic soil showed that they are quite suitable for growing in open soil in the northern part of the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. It was established that the formation of the commercial yield of cutting lettuce largely depends on varietal characteristics.
