The concentration of trace metals (Pb, Cd, As and Hg) were measured in sea water and sediments in the coastline of the Montenegro. The obtained results of trace metals in sea water were compared with those found in the sediment. Sampling was performed in the fall of 2005 and spring 2006 at five locations in the Montenegrin coastline, Sveti Stasije, Herceg Novi, Budva, Bar and Rt Djeran which present different levels and sources of human impact. The heavy metals analyses in seawater and sediment of the Montenegrin coastline identified to be contaminated with lead the harbor Bar and Sv. Stasije, with arsenic Rt Djeran, with mercury the harbor Bar and Herceg Novi and with cadmium Herceg Novi.

In this work physico-chemical and microbiological indicators of coastal waters of Boka Kotorska Bay were presented. As results these parameters of waters quality for mariculture were estimated, especially for breeding of high quality species: mussels-Mytilus galloprovincialis and oyster-Ostrea edulis. The data of primary production which is important for food chain for these organisms were presented. Investigated locations are suitable for mariculture which was requested from Public Enterprise Coastal zone. Temporary, higher eutrophic level was noticed as result of anthropogenic influence. The data are from one year period (2010- montly and seasonally intervals) by monitoring on 10 locations.

Sea urchin gametes, embryos and larvae can be used for quick, cheap and reliable screening and testing of pharmacologically active substances and pollutants. Effects of fecal pollution of Kotor Bay water and mercury in sediments and water of Risan Bay on embryonic development of spotted sea urchin (S. granularis), were examined. The results showed malformations, blockade of adhesion blastomeras and normal embryonic development. This distortion of development is about the suppression of the normal process of cortical granule exocytosis during activation reaction that starts fertilization, response Ring wave and increased level of free calcium ions in intimately membrane layer.

This paper presents results of measuring the contents of certain bio-indicators in samples of digestive gland and lung of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis). The results were obtained in the framework of the Program for monitoring ecological status in Montenegro during the 2009 and 2010 year. Biomonitoring program was conducted in accordance with the LBS Protocol (Protocol on the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against pollution from land-based sources and land activities) and the criteria MED POL Programme (Mediterranean Pollution Control), which is compliant with the requirements of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and has established a system of reporting and data exchange with the EEA. The program includes the analysis of biomarkers in Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lamarc, 1819) (mussels), and dynamic sampling is 2 times a year (March and September). In order to assess the spatial distribution and temporal trends of pollution, followed by the response of various biomarkers presented at two positions in the coastal waters of Montenegro (Dobrota and Bijela) and three positions in Slovenia (bays Piran, Strunjan and Koper). Biomarker responses showed no difference between the positions of the different ecological status.

Concentration of lead (Pb), lame (Cr), copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd) were detrmined in Cystoseira algae collected from the Montenegrin mediolittoroal, during the spring 2007. Samples of three species of Cystoseira algae (C. amentacea, C. barbata and C. compressa) were analyzed in order to have information on bioaccumulation of these elements and possibility to use these algae as biomonitors for heavy metal pollution. The data obtained for heavy metals were similar with other area of Mediterranean Sea, with exception for significantly higher concentration of copper, on Budva location.
