2019
Emre Şirin
Hair Goat is one of the native breeds of Turkey. There are 8 million head of Hair Goat in Turkey. Hair goat is well suited in harsh climate or poor pasture conditions and forests. They are kept usually for meat production. The body colour of Hair Goat ranges from white to black or brown. The male goats have more live weight than females. In this study, 2500 head of Hair Goats were collected in 2015 and 2016. Birth rate was 61.2 and 73.7% respectively. Twinning rate was 7.2 and 6.6% and infertility rate was 24.6 and 15.4% respectively. These results indicate low fertility rate of Hair Goats.

2019

Purple sweet potato (PSP) serves as a potential source for dual functionalities of resistant starch (RS) and antioxidants. This study aims to evaluate the effects of pullulanase enzyme on these functionalities. Results showed that the incorporation of pullulanase into PSP powder could significantly increase the RS content from 3.06 g/100g to 7.11 g/100g. However, total anthocyanin content and DPPH radical scavenging activity reduced significantly, due to the interference from RS fragments on anthocyanins. Securing both functionalities (RS and antioxidant) within the same sample is seemingly impossible. A compromise between RS and antioxidant properties in coloured, starchy plant powders is recommended.

2019
Bulti Merga | Abdulatif Ahmed
Ethiopia’s agricultural production has been challenged by waterlogging, salinity, acidity, parasitic weed, and irrigation scheduling problems which has resulted in lower yields than the potential. Waterlogging is the main drainage problem in the small scale irrigation schemes in the Vertisols dominated highland areas while salinity and salinization is a common phenomenon in the large and medium scale irrigation schemes located in the lowlands of the country’s major river basins with predominantly salt affected soils. Soil acidity and associated low nutrient availability is one of the constraints to crop production on acid soils. Lime requirement for crops grown on acid soils is determined by the quality of liming material, status of soil fertility, crop species and varieties, crop management practices, and economic considerations. A considerable loss in growth and yield of many food and fodder crops is caused by root-parasitic flowering plants. Globally, Striga and Orobanche have a greater impact on human welfare than any other parasitic angiosperms because their hosts are subsistence crops in areas marginal for agriculture. In irrigated agriculture, efficient water management is an important element. Such practices can help bust sustainable production and maintain farm profitability in which there is limited water resource.

The Evaluation of Irrigation Water Resources of Manisa Region in terms of Soil, Plant and Drip Irrigation System Texte intégral
2019
Pınar Doğan | Üstün Şahin
Chemical quality analysis results of 5 surface and 30 groundwater resources commonly used in agricultural irrigation in Manisa province were evaluated and the possible effects on soil, plant and drip irrigation system were determined. In this context, the cation (Ca, Mg, Na, K), anion (CO3, HCO3, CI, SO4), Fe, B contents, pH and electrical conductivity values of the water resources as well as the Percentage Sodium, Sodium Adsorption Ratio and the Adjusted Sodium Adsorption Ratio determined by the calculation Permanent Sodium Carbonate, Langelier Saturation Index, Potential Salinity, Permeability Index and Hardness parameters were used. The results indicated that the potential of problem of surface water resources is higher than that of ground water. Salihli-Köseali, Necati bey farms and Alaşehir-Kasaplı underground water resources are used more serious problems than other underground water resources. According to the type of problem that may occur, recommendations were made on measures including washing, salt-resistant plant growing, addition of organic matter and natural Ca sources and the application of dilute acid.

Physalis peruviana (PP) is a popular exotic fruit due to its functional food properties. This product has a wide range of uses in the medical field, including treatments for cancer, malaria, hepatitis, dermatitis, rheumatism, weight loss, and diabetes. In this study, the PP element concentrations were investigated using a Wave Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (WDXRF). Al, Ca, Fe, Mn, P, S, Zn, Cl, K, Mg, Na, F, Si, and B were detected, and the Ca, Fe, Zn, P, Na, Mg elements were found in significant amounts. Therefore, PP has some important health elements. For example, Mg and Mn may be associated with diabetes control. WDXRF is a cheap, quick, and non-destructive technique used in the elemental analysis of plant samples.

2019
Cigdem Elgin Karabacak | Aysel Yeşilyurt Er
This research was carried out in the greenhouses of Pamukkale University Menderes Basin Agricultural Application and Research Centre in order to determine the effects of different blossom pruning on yield and quality in Ayza F1 tomato cultivars. The experiment consisted three different applications; pruning group having 6 fruits in flower bunch, pruning group having 7 fruits in flower bunch and control group without pruning. As the quality criterion in the tomato cultivar, total amount of water soluble dry matter (TWSDM %), pH, titratable acidity (TA mval 100 ml-1), hardness of fruit flesh (Newton) and antioxidant content (%) were determined. In addition, fruit diameter (cm), fruit length (mm) and weight (g) were detected. Yield parameters such as total yield (g plant-1), marketable yield (g plant-1), number of fruits (number plant-1), average fruit weight (g fruit-1) were considered detailed. Flower pruning having 6 fruits was prominent in terms of marketable yield, fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit length and dry matter (DM) values. The effects of the applications on the quality characteristics such as fruit index, TWSDM and pH were found to be insignificant and their effects on DM, TA, fruit flesh hardness and antioxidant amount were detected to be significant.

2019
Hülya Saygı | Fatih Güleç
This study aims to fully controlled production of european catfish (Silurus glanis) and to increase fertilization and survival rates using different solutions and methods, enrichment of natural stocks with the obtained larvae and to provide participation as a new species in addition to species cultivated in Turkey. The study was carried out in Gürle Trout Farm in Manisa province. Eggs and sperm, that had been obtained from the broodstock, exposed to various fertilization methods and the fertilized eggs were put in the zuger jars and made triplicate trials. As a result, in this study, under the light of the findings obtained from different fish that was captured in different times and from two different regions; eggs that were treated with the urea-salt solution fertilization, eying and survival rates were higher than only salt solution application. Urea-salt solution for 10 minutes and the salt solution for 10 minutes were more successful. In addition, the time problem of working with living materials has become one of the biggest obstacles to this work. It is imperative that the reproductive cycle occurs once a year and in case of failure, it is needed to wait for the next cycle. In this context, it was not possible to tolerate the problems experienced in egg-taking, fertilization and survival activities in the last attempt. Therefore, the project had to be terminated here.
