2022
Nezahat Turfan
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of 10 mM silicon (Si) application on salt stress (50, 100, and 200 mM NaCl) tolerance in Hungarian vetch seedlings (Ege Beyazi-79) based on growth parameters (shoot length and fresh weight, organic dry matter, and moisture), bioactive compounds as chlorophyll, carotenoid, proline, protein, nitrate, and nutrient status. Silicon was applied to the seedlings from the leaves and NaCl from the salt soil, both of which were dissolved in Hoagland solution. The results revealed that the highest shoot length Si+100 mM NaCl was recorded and the highest fresh and dry weight was recorded with length Si+50 mM NaCl. The highest dry matter was obtained from Si and 200 mM NaCl. The highest chlorophyll, carotenoid, proline, protein, and nitrate were obtained from 100 mM NaCl+Si, while the lowest chlorophyll, carotenoid, and nitrate were obtained from 200 mm NaCl and the lowest proline and protein from 100 mM NaCl, respectively. The amount of K, Mg, and S were low in NaCl doses but high in Si and Si + NaCl doses, and P was higher in all groups compared to the control. The content of Na, Co, and Se were high in all groups except Cl 50 NaCl, while Mn, Zn, and Ni were higher in Si and Si + NaCl doses. Silicon content of samples was high at higher NaCl + Si doses. The results provided by this investigating indicated that silicate concentrations positively affected the parameters examined in Hungarian seedlings, and increased the tolerance of seedlings to salt stress.

2022
Fatma Coşkun Topuz
In this research, fresh green peppers were dried in a kitchen microwave oven at 600W, 700W and 800W. The drying curves of the study were compared with 5 different thin layer drying models in the literature. The changes in the moisture values of the samples against time were expressed graphically. R2, χ2 and RMSE values were used to determine the most suitable model for dried green peppers. Color values of fresh and dried peppers were determined. It was found that the L* and b* values of the dried peppers were lower, and the a* value was higher than the fresh green peppers. In addition, the rehydration rate of dried peppers was calculated. It was determined that the rehydration ability of the peppers decreased as the applied microwave power increased. For this reason, it was found that the peppers with the highest rehydration rate were those dried with 600W. Also, it was found that the most suitable model for all microwave powers among the five drying models was the Logarithmic drying model. It was calculated that the R2 values of the drying models ranged between 0.830-0.999, χ2 values between 0.0001- 0.4684 and RMSE values between 0.0014-0.6121. It was determined that the highest R2 (0.997-0.999), the lowest χ2 (0.0001-0.0002) values, and the lowest RMSE (0.0014-0.0035) values for all microwave powers belong to the Logarithmic drying model.

2022
Atakan Koç | Berkay Gaser
Colostrum quality produced by dairy cows varies considerably. The amount of immune protein content in colostrum has also high specific gravity. In this study, the specific gravity of colostrum (SGC) produced by 32 Holstein-Friesian cows with different parities in the first five milking after calving, and additionally, the fat content (FC), non-fat dry matter content (NFDMC) and somatic cell count (SCC) in the milk samples taken in the first five milking and on the fifth and 10th day milking of lactation were determined. The effects of parity and milking order on SGC, FC, NFDMC and Log10SCC were detected to be statistically significant. Parity x milking order interaction effect was found to be significant for SGC, FC and NFDMC, but its effect on Log10SCC was insignificant. Cows with three and upper parities had higher SGC, FC, NFDMC, and Log10SCC than cows in the first and second parities. While SGC (1055.09±1.20 mg/mL), FC (6.36±0.12%) and NFDMC (18.17±0.37%) obtained at the first milking decreased gradually in advancing milking, Log10SCC (5.90±0.028) level increased. The correlation coefficients of SGC with FC, NFDMC, and Log10SCC were low-medium, the coefficients between FC and NFDMC were moderately too high in the first three milking, and decreased and approached zero in advancing milking. It was observed that SGC remained high even in the fourth milking in some cows, especially in the third and higher parities. In conclusion, it has been revealed that not only colostrum obtained from the first milking, but also quality colostrum produced in subsequent milking can be used in calf feeding in dairy cattle farms. However, all this depends on the adoption of the strategy of determining the quality of colostrum with the help of a colostrometer in dairy cattle farms.

2022
Seyit Ahmet Gökmen | Esra Tuğçe Gül | Osman Olgun
The current research was carried out to determine the effect of adding sodium formate at the level of 0, 5, and 10 g/kg to the diets on the performance, egg quality and some serum parameters in layer Japanese quails. In the experiment, a total of 84 female quails at the age of 20 weeks were randomly distributed to 3 treatment groups with 7 replicates. At the end of the experiment, the addition of sodium formate at different levels to the diet did not statistically affect performance and egg quality parameters. Compared with the control group, the supplementation of 10 g/kg sodium formate to the diet considerably decreased the serum glucose concentration, while the serum calcium concentration increased significantly. Furthermore, the administration of sodium formate to diet significantly decreased serum triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations. According to the results obtained from the study, it was determined that the addition of sodium formate to the diet was effective in reducing serum glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations and increasing serum calcium concentration without affecting the performance and egg quality parameters of laying quails, and this effect was more pronounced at 10 g/kg sodium formate level.

2022
Emre Sevindik | Mehmet Yavuz Paksoy | Mustafa Sevindik
In this study, genetic relationship of ISSR markers of seven endemic Inula species distributed in Turkey was carried out. Plant samples were collected from different regions of Turkey in 2013 and gDNA was obtained by DNA isolation from green leaves. Genetic relationship between species was determined using 12 ISSR primers. PCR products were run on agarose gel electrophoresis and visualized under UV light. All gel images were examined and the presence and absence of polymorphic bands were scored as 0 and 1. A total of 85 bands were obtained from the primers. Of these, 74 polymorphic and 11 monomorphic bands were obtained. The total polymorphism rate was found to be approximately 87.05%. The phylogenetic tree and genetic distances between species were calculated using the PAUP 0 4.0b10 analysis program. According to the distance matrix, the genetic distance was found between the closest Inula helenium subsp. orgyalis and Inula helenium subsp. vanensis (0.29851), while the farthest between Inula sarana and Inula macrocephala (0.56000) species. The phylogenetic tree was obtained using the UPGMA algorithm, and the tree consisted of two groups. The results were compared with the morphological, palynological nrDNA and cpDNA results of the past. Our findings supported previous studies.

2022
Cevher Şamil Çaldağı | Alpönder Yıldız
In the current research, it was aimed to determine the effect of the use of under sieve beans, which are not suitable for human consumption, in the diets of growing quails on performance, carcass, and serum parameters. For this purpose, a total of 240-day-old quail chicks were randomly distributed to 6 treatment groups with 40 quail chicks in each, with 4 replicates. In the study, quails were fed with 6 different treatment diets containing 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100 g/kg of under sieve beans. The results of the study demonstrated that the feed intake, mortality, carcass yield, thigh+drumstick, breast, liver, heart weights and serum triglyceride, cholesterol, total protein, albumin, globulin, creatinine, and urea levels of quails were not affected by the use of under sieve beans in the diet. The body weight, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio were considerably affected by the treatments and the best results in terms of these parameters were obtained in the group using under sieve beans at the level of 40 g/kg. Compared to the control group, pancreas weight increased in the 80 and 100 g/kg under sieve bean groups, while abdominal fat weight decreased in the 100 g/kg under sieve bean group. Serum glucose level increased significantly with the use of under sieve beans in the diet. The serum amylase level, on the other hand, was minimum with the use of 100 g/kg of under sieve beans in the diet. According to the results obtained, it can be said that raw under sieve beans could be used at the level of 40 g/kg without any adverse effects in growing quail diets.
