Malabar spinach is a non-conventional vegetable propagated mainly by seeds. This research evaluated the propagation by stem cuttings as an alternative method of propagation and verified its effect on growth of the vegetable. Plantlets propagated by seeds and stem cuttings were grown in greenhouse and their growth were evaluated in five successive intervals of 21 days each, with the first evaluation carried out 60 days after the transplanting. The results showed that the propagation methods have influence on the Malabar spinach growth. Plants propagated by seeds display slow, but vigorous growth, with larger relative yield of leaves and tender leaves, while plants propagated by cuttings showed fast initial growth, with rapid fruit formation. Thus, the propagation by cuttings is more suitable for seed production, while propagation by seeds is more profitable for leaves production.

With the purpose to minimize the incidence of stem-end rot, mango, caused by Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Fusicoccum aesculi, and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, five resistance inductors were tested under field conditions: (T1) absolute control (no treatment); (T2) Fosetyl-AL; (T3) Agromós; (T4) Calcium Phosphite; (T5) Potassium Phosphite: (K30) and (T6) Acibenzolar-S-methyl; which were compared to the control treatment, to the conventional treatment on the farm (T7) compound: Pyraclostrobin; Thiophanate methyl; Azoxystrobin; Difeconazole; Tebuconazole; Thiabendazol; Tetraconazole. The sprayings were performed using a knapsack sprayer in a total of seven applications with 15-day intervals. The statistical design was a randomized block design with seven treatments and four replications, with each plant being considered a repetition, totaling 28 plants. Incidence of post-harvest rot was obtained for 77.9% of the treated fruit. No significant difference between the tested resistance inducers was observed, not even regarding the control. However, the conventional treatment (T7), adopted by the farm, showed a 25% disease incidence only and diverged statistically from the others. Studying the etiology of the rot, high indices of C. gloeosporioides, with 75% incidence, were verified, followed by L. theobromae, F. aesculi, A. niger and Alternaria sp, with incidence of 11%, 5.5%, 2.7% and 1.3%, respectively. Moreover, 4.3% of non-identified micro-organisms were detected.

Banana crop is one of the most cultivated fruit in the Northeast of Brazil, but it requires a considerable amount of water during its cycle making it essential the appropriate management of irrigation in order to optimize the water use. Thus, aimed to study the effect of water levels on growth, productivity and water use efficiency of banana cv. Nanicão in the second cycle. The research was carried out at the Campus IV of Universidade Estadual da Paraíba, located in Catolé do Rocha, PB, under field conditions, in a block randomized design with five irrigation levels (55%, 77.5%, 100%, 122.5% and 145% ETo) and four replications. Four plants were used per plot, spaced of 3 m x 3 m and irrigated by a drip system. Height, stem diameter and leaf area were evaluated every two weeks. It was determined in the harvest, the bunch weight, number of hands, fruits per bunch, weight and number of fruits of the second hand, length and diameter of three median fruits of the second hand and the productivity and water use efficiency were also estimated. Irrigation based on 145% of ETo provided higher increase on growth and productivity, but did not different significantly from results obtained when was applied 122,5% of ETo. Maximum water use efficiency was obtained with application of the lower water level.

The aerial application of pesticides is a valuable tool in agriculture, when based on well-defined technical criterion. This paper aimed to evaluate the spatial dependence of the drops spectrum and its deposition by an aerial application over the soybean crop (Glycine max). An experimental agricultural aircraft was used, model Acrobat, from England Company, equipped with eight rotary atomizers, model Micronair AU 5000, applying a spray volume of 20 L ha-1. To obtain the droplet spectrum were used hidro sensitive targets consisting of paper, distributed in the middle third and higher plants. Spectrum analysis of the drops was made using the computer program "CIR" version 1.5 in 2002. To determine the amount deposited on the leaves of the upper, middle, and bottom of the soybean plants, we used the bright blue food coloring added to the spray solution. These leaves were washed and the amount determined by spectrophotometry. The analysis of spatial dependence was evaluated using the GS + version 7 program. The results show no spatial dependence for the attributes. There was a low percentage of coverage in the upper and middle third of the plants. The geostatistical analysis can be used to characterize the spatial attributes of application coverage, but should be used a sampling grid of smaller size.

The search for healthy foods associate with health and quality of life has contributed to increase the fish consumption. The aim of this study was to verify the profile of fish consumption by the customers of the UFERSA restaurant. 135 questionnaires were applied to meet the consumer of fish, frequency, forms of use and receptivity to new products made of fish. The results indicated low fish consumption by the customers assigned to low supply, lack of habit and high price compared to other meats. The respondents were receptive to new products unless the price is competitive. Research and development of new products based on fish are needed combined with the marketing showing benefits of fish consumption to health.

The brackish water can be used on profitable agricultural production, depending on the adoption of appropriated crop practices and the crop tolerance to salinity as well. The hydroponic system can contribute when it is used with brackish water on horticulture production, because the great state of saturation that plants is submitted enables the increase of crop tolerance to salinity. This paper evaluated the effect of salinity on nutritive solution of rocket (Eruca sativa L.), cv. "Cultivada", cultivated in coconut fiber substrate under protected conditions. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocs design, with four types of water, added with NaCl, one was the control (S1 = 2.0; S2 = 3.5; S3 = 4.5 and S4 = 5.5 dS m-1), applied in four development stages (1st week, 2nd week, 3th week and 4th week after the transplantation) with four repetitions. The evaluated characteristics were the crown diameter, fresh and dry weight of the canopy. The results showed that increasing salinity levels decreased the fresh biomass. The first and second growth week of cultivation times were more sensitive to application of saline water with reduction 9.7% on the fresh biomass.

The sustainable management of savanna reduces the devastation of semiarid and aims based agricultural guided by systematic principles of agroecology. In that connection we evaluated the effects of cropping systems and management of savanna through the analysis of chemical indicators of soil quality in agricultural production in Apodi, RN. . The systems were evaluated: 1 - management area of savanna with 5 (five) years (MAS5), 2 - management area of savanna with 7 (seven) years (MAS7), 3 - conventional system (CSA) and 4 - native forest (NF). The chemical analysis revealed that the management of savanna for five to seven years is a beneficial way contributed to conservation of soil.

Given the pressure on biodiversity, due to its use in an unsustainable way, particularly in the Caatinga biome, and the need to restore the popular knowledge, is that this paper was developed in order to conduct a survey of medicinal plants used by the community of Laços, Tanhaçú, in the state of Bahia. And identify, among these, those species that are found in the National Forest Contendas Sincorá, the city of Contention Sincorá, Bahia. The data collecting was done through interviews, having as a tool the use of questionnaires. The vegetal species mentioned by the community and found in the Conservation Unit were collected and sent for identification. The community were cited 92 species of plants used for medicinal purposes, of which only 10.9% were found in the conservation area and, among them, the species Bidens pilosa, known as ¿carrapicho de agulha¿, was the most cited (52.4%), followed by Amburana cearensis (27.7%), popularly known as ¿umburana macho¿. The paper showed that target community of the study uses many medicinal plants to treat their illnesses, however, few species were found in the National Forest Contendas do Sincorá.

The growth retardants Paclobutrazol (PBZ) and Cycocel (CCC) had been used, in spraying, associates or not with two cytokinins: Benziladenina (BAP) and Thidiazuron (TDZ), and a nitrogenous base, the Uracil, with the purpose of studying its effect in the bud fertility of the 'Superior Seedless', grafted on the 'Harmony' and IAC-766 'Campinas', and of the 'Crimson Seedless' and 'Thompson Seedless', grafted on the 'Harmony', in the conditions of the São Francisco Valley, Brazil. It was observed that the separately use of the products had not promoted significant differences in the studied of the bud fertility, but, the association of the growth retardants with the TDZ it induce the 'Thompson Seedless' to a bigger productivity, and that the expression of the bud fertility of the 'Seedless Superior' benefits on to being grafted on the 'Harmony' rootstock.

The development of soybean cultivars adapted to different regions and generation technologies contribute to Brazil to increase its production, placing it as the second largest world producer and exporter of grain. Several factors have limited its production among these diseases, approximately 40 already identified in Brazil, especially powdery mildew (Erysiphe diffusa U. Braun & S. Takami), one of the most important, resulting in reductions of up to 40% in income susceptible cultivars. The study aimed to evaluate the severity of powdery mildew on soybean genotypes during seven seasons of evaluation, by analyzing disease progress, using regression. It was developed at the Federal University of Viçosa, Minas Gerais arranged in split plots inrandomized block design seven evaluations were performed by visual quantification of the level of infection of leaf area infected (NIAFI). Regression analysis was performed to check the progress of thedisease. The results showed that the method is efficient for such studies, showing clearly the evolution of the disease, and aiding in the discrimination of resistant and susceptible genotypes at the third assessment. Stood out as sources of resistance genotypes UFV-16, UFV-19, UFV 89-361826T2, FT-Abyara RC5 (F4), FT-RC6 Abyara (F2), FT-10 RC5 (F3), Doko RC, UFV UFV 95-4121333 and UFV 94-334268. FT-104 and FT-Crystalina stood out as susceptible and BR-16 and FT-Estrela as highly susceptible, while the other showed intermediate behavior.
