Mestrado em Engenharia do Ambiente | Este estudo insere-se no âmbito do projecto CARBOEUROPE, procedendo-se à análise de dados recolhidos numa pastagem Alentejana, relativos aos anos hidrológicos 2006-2007 e 2007-2008, tendo como objectivos a determinação dos fluxos de carbono, energia e vapor de água e o cálculo do balanço de carbono nesta pastagem durante os referidos anos hidrológicos. As medições foram efectuadas usando a técnica da correlação turbulenta. A pastagem apresentou características intrínsecas de um clima mediterrânico: foram registadas temperaturas do ar baixas no Inverno e elevadas no Verão. As estações de Outono e Primavera foram chuvosas. O ano hidrológico de 2006-2007 foi húmido, normal para o local em questão apresentando valores de precipitação dentro da média. O ano 2007-2008 foi mais seco que o anterior. A variação sazonal dos fluxos de dióxido de carbono, vapor de água e energia seguiu, a variação sazonal da energia disponível no ecossistema (Rn) sendo ainda influenciados pelo contudo volumétrico de água no solo e do desenvolvimento do coberto vegetal. A pastagem comporta-se como um sumidouro de carbono em parte dos meses de Inverno e Primavera (período de crescimento das plantas), constatando-se nesse período de tempo os valores mínimos de NEE e os máximos de GPP e Reco. Nos meses de Outono e Verão a pastagem é uma fonte de carbono. ABSTRACT: This study is part of the CARBOEUROPE project, and analyzes the data collected in a pasture in the Alentejo, for the hydrological years of 2006-2008. The objectives of this study are the determination of the fluxes of carbon, energy and water vapour, and the calculation of the carbon balance in this pasture during these hydrological years. The fluxes were measured using an eddy covariance system. The pasture had intrinsic characteristics of a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, with most of the precipitation confined to the spring and autumn (particularly the autumn). Precipitation in the hydrological year of 2006-2007 was normal, with values around the long-term average. The hydrological year of 2007-2008 was drier than the previous year. The seasonal variation in the pattern of carbon dioxide, water vapour and energy followed the seasonal variation of available energy in the ecosystem (Rn). However, carbon fluxes are influenced by the volume of water in the soil and the development of vegetation. The pasture behaves as a carbon sink during the months of winter and spring (period of plant growth). In that period minimum values of NEE and maximum values of GPP and Reco are found. However, in the summer and autumn months the pasture is a source of carbon.
