Procedure for recommending organic matter applications as a function of the clay content in the soil [Cuba]

A method was developed for evaluating the organic matter content in cuban soils. It is based on the clay property of binding to humic compounds. The regressio equation: organic matter (OM) = f(clay %) was stablished and it is eviden a clear correlation. Thus, it is particularly important to use the clay content in soils as a criterion for evaluating a given organic matter level. Tables are presented for the assessment of organic matter level in our own conditions and recommendations for its application.
