Utilisation of farmwastes through anaerobic generation of bio-gas could prove to be a boon in rural communities of Malaysia. Such an appropriate technology, decides creating independent energy sources, will provide fertilizer for paddy fieldss in a non-polluting manner. At Appropriate Technology Unit, a four cubic metre bio-gas plant (Indian type) has been decigned and installed as a demonstration unit fulfilling the requirements of a small village level coconut oil production unit. The gas is used for domestic cooking. The spent slurry is used as a fertilizer in vegetable gardening and paddy fields
