Inheritance of maize (Zea mays L.) stalk resistance to lodging

Inbred lines with various resistance to lodging and their F1 and F2 hybrids analysed. The following was concluded:1) Additive(AG) and inadditive(IAG) genes had equal importance in inheriting resistance to lodging and h2 was 52%. This property is negative correlation with the yield of grain. 2) For the 5th internode lenght h2=4.28%. Heterosis was found in all F1 and F2 hybrids and superdominance(SD) in the whole diallel system. AG had greater importance. The 5th internode lenght did not influence notably the percentage of lodged plants and it was in high correlation with the yield of grain. 3) Partial domination(PD), intermediary(I) and SD for the primary bark thickness in single F1 hybrids and PD for the whole diallel system were found. AG and IAG had equal importance. Parents and hybrids with thicker primary bark had a significantly lower number of lodged plants and higher yield of grain. 4) For the water share in the 5th internode h2=70%. All types of inheritance, except PD of parents with lower water share were found in single F1 and F2 hybrids. SD in F1 and PD in F2 were found. AG and IAG were important, with IAG predominating. The water share in the 5th internode was in negative correlation with the percentage of lodged plants and in positive one with the yield of grain. 5) For cellulose share in single F1 hybrid stalks, SD and PD of the parents with higher share were found and PD was found for the whole diallel system. AG and IAG had equal share. Cellulose share in stalk did not influence notably the decrease of the percentage of lodged parent and F1 hybrid plants and this property was in positive correlation with the yield of grain. 6) For the total sugars content in F1 hybrid stalks, depending on the combination, PD, domination, I and negative heterosis showed. The percentage of lodged plants and the yield of grain of parents and F1 hybrids were not in significant correlation with this property. 7) For the yield of grain, h2=11.7%. heterosis was found, except I combination, in F1 and F2 hybrids and SD in the whole diallel system. IAG had greater importance.
