[Effect of energetic supplementation on the hay digestion of Agropirum [bovine, animal nutrition]]

Agropyron hay was used as base diet (74.4%NDF; 7.56%CP). The concentrate was ground corn (15%NDF; 11%CP), fed the following levels: 0, 25 and 50% of the TDMI. Six rumen cannulated Aberdeen Angus steers were used in two 3X3 latin square running simultaneously. The treatments with 0 and 25% concentrate had a 64% and 34% higher fraction of potentialy digestible NDF than the 50% treatment The values of rate of digestion were 0.034 and 0.026 hs.-1 for the 0 and 50% of concentrate. The DM and NDF digestibilities were 60, 64 and 68%; 63, 58 and 53% for the 0, 25 and 50% concentrate respectively. There were not associative effects present. The ruminal and ceacum and proximal colon retention times were 66, 45 and 89 hs, 30, 22 and 31 hs for 0, 25 and 50% concentrate respectively.
