Origin of transmissible canine venereal tumour of dog on the basis of histopathology and histochemistry

Histologically the tumour cells were found to be dispherical, slightly oval polyhedral, rarely irregular and exhibiting a marked uniformity in size and appearance. The nuclei were large round and possessed more or less centrally located nucleoli. Small number of lymphocytes, macrophages, eosinophils and tissue mast cells were scattered throughout the stroma. Application of methylgreen-pyronin and page green method for viral particles and inclusion bodies respectively did not give any conlcusive evidence as to the involvement of a virus in the causation of transmissible canine venereal tumour. However, the cytoplasm of the neoplasm cells appeared more pyroninophilic with methyl-green-pyronin indicating greater concentration of RNA particles
