Effects of drying condition under sun light on drying period and grain quality in paddy

Studies were conducted to find out methods for sun drying of paddy and to improve grain quality. Experiments were carried out with drying conditions for paddy under sunlight in autumn (temperature: 13.0-16.8 deg C RH: 67-76%). The best condition was 5cm of paddy thickness, drying on a gauze sheet on rice straw of 10cm thick. Through the above method, the initial moisture content in paddy of about 23% was reduced up to 15% after three days of drying, and yielded the highest milled rice as well as head rice recovery due to less paddy cracked during the process of drying
