Effects of drought stress on major upland crops

The effects of drought stresses in 1982 on four upland crops, soybean, sesame, corn and peanut were investigated. Yield components and growth characteristics of upland crop due to drought stress during vegetable stage decreased by 10-30% and the drought damages of yield components and growth characteristics suffered in order of sesame, corn, peanut and soybean. Grain yield of soybean, corn, sesame and peanut due to drought stress during vegetable stage decreased by 15%, 26%, 49% and 17% respectively and main element affected yield reduction were 1,000 grain weight in soybean, stem length and kernels per ear in corn, plant weight in sesame and 1,000 grain weight, number of pods per plant in peanut
