Progress in breeding and selection for seed production at HMPB [Harrisons Malaysian Plantations Berhad]
1985
Lee, C.H. | Yeow, K.H. (Harrisons Malaysian Plantations Berhad, Banting, Selangor (Malaysia). Oil Palm Research Station)
Initially, pisifera pollen used was from non-HMPB sources, and this was replaced with the station's BM 119 pisiferas in 1966. The current pisiferas used are derived from further breeding and selection of the BM 119 progeny. Early trial results from the D x P progenies involving the BM 822 and BM 824 (with dumpiness incorporated) pisiferas are found to be promising. Several outstanding D x P progenies have been identified, and their parents are being propagated vegetatively. In the near future, HMPB-OPRS will switch to the production of clonal seeds of outstanding D x P progenies
