Agronomic performance of four flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cultivars under different irrigation frequency

Significant cultivar differences were observed in terms of plant height, leaf area, number of harvested leaves, yield, grade index, crop value and nicotine content. Coker 254 and NCBY were the latest at 140.7 and 127.9 cm, respectively. Balikbayan had the broadest leaves (1309 sq. cm.), highest yield (2.7 t/ha), grade index (3.9), crop value (24,910) but had the lowest nicotine content (0.58%). Weekly flooding produced the highest cured leaf yield (3.1 t/ha) but poor in physical quality (2.1). Reduction in leaf area, plant height and increased specific leaf weight were generally observed in plants that were irrigated up to the usual practice of 60 DAT. The plants, however, were able to withstand the stress and produced acceptable quantity and quality of yield
