The physical leaf quality was evaluated based on grade index and percentage of high and low quality leaves. Quality of control leaves was better than ethrel-treated ones. Continued yellowing of ethrel-treated leaves led to deterioration. Ethrel-treated leaves had higher moisture content (88.5%) even if they were already yellow at harvest, compared to control leaves (60-65%). Quality of the treated leaves in the first priming did not vary among the treatments except those yellow leaves hanged outside for 48 hours prior to curing. However, at the second and third primings, prolonged yellowing up to 48 hours markedly reduced quality. Yellow-green leaves hanged outside the barn for 12 to 48 hours had similar quality to the control
