Evaluation of genetic gain in milk production in the period from 1961 to 1979 was based on the comparison of dams and their daughters. The material included 2874 pairs of dam-daughters from the pedigree herds of Black-and-White cattle. The great variability of values concerning milk and milk fat production as well as fat percentage and a tendency to their decreasing in the last years was stated. The genetic gain in the protein yield and content was near to zero. The results indicate the lack of selection concerning these traits
