Effect of planting date on yield and chemical composition of maize grown for silage. 2. Maize as a second crop
1983
Borowiecki, J. (Inst. Uprawy Nawozenia i Gleboznawstwa, Pulawy (Poland))
Maize grown as a catch crop after rye for green feed performed well when the plantings were done before May 20. Further delays in planting date reduced maize yields and the reduction was dependent on weather conditions. Delayed plantings resulted in a decreased percentage of ears in total plant weight and in a decreased dry matter content. The plants from delayed plantings contained more total protein and ash and less fat than those from earlier plantings
