Effect of methionine addition to rations of different protein, energy and mineral-vitamin contents on chicken fattening performance

An experiment was carried out on Ruribrid chickens given rations containing respectively during stater/finisher periods 21/18 or 18/15% of protein, and 2900 or 3300 kcal of metabolizable energy/kg. Methionine content in the starter and finisher rations was, respectively, 0.29-0.35% and 0.25-0.37%. Addition of synthetic DL-Methionine up to the levels of 0.59% in starter and up to 0.44% in finisher rations increased body weight of chickens on average by 4.8%, feed conversion by 5.5% and protein utilization by 9.1%. The efficiency of methionine was better with the rations of higher energy content. The supplement of methionine up to 0.85 and 0.5% in the starter and finisher rations did not result in the increase of productivity
