The paper brings the chemical, technical and technological aspects of CO2 application in preparation and refining water in Yugoslavia from the qualitative and quantitative - economical viewpoint. The sources of carbon dioxide, different applications of CO2 in water technology and especially theoretical and practical aspects of neutralization the alkaline waste waters by carbon dioxide are worked out. In the supplement of this report is given the survey of basic quantitative characteristics of CO2-H2O system. The conclusion is that carbon dioxide application in systems for water preparation and refining, and especially for neutralization of alkaline waste wasters has many comparative advantages. This especially refers to lower price of neutralization agent and lower investment and operative costs in relation to neutralization with mineral acids. The analyses of production and disposal of CO2 proves that almost all produced CO2 surpluses in 1984 can be invested into neutralization of alkaline waste waters in the factories for washing bottles (about 78 %). We are of the opinion that analyses and directions of water technology development in the world explicitly point the need for investments in the development of domestic equipment and system for carbon dioxide application in this field.
