Nutritive value of rapeseed oil meal in the feeding of growing and finishing pigs
1984
Segetlija, Dj.
The investigations were carried out with rapeseed meal, of "Gorcanski" variety, produced in Yugoslavia. This rapeseed meal was added to the rations for piglets in quantities of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10%, and to the rations for fattening pigs in quantities of 0, 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12%. The criteria for the evaluation of the results obtained were as follows: the average daily rate of gain of the animals, feed consumption, feed utilization for 1 kg rate of gain, feed digestibility and protein retention, digestibility of nutrients in a ration, carcass quality and state of health of the animals. It was concluded that rapeseed meal may be used as a source of protein in piglet and swine feeding within certain limits. The level of rapeseed meal in rations is limited on one side by lesser digestibility and biological protein value, and on the other side by the content of harmful, toxic substances, with negative cumulative effect. These investigations showed that the upper limit of rapeseed meal content used in these experiments, in rations for piglets was 4%, and in rations for growing and fattening pigs was 6%.
