This study shows that it is necessary to pay greater attention to making stacks of maize stalks in one passage with the simultaneous gathering of grains by application of a special drum for gathering maize ears. Maize stalks should be prepared for gathering at the same time with the grains, it should be reaped and put away in a stack along the axis of the harvester. Gathering of reaped and broken, but not trodden maize stalks can be done by cylindricyl bale forming press, by press on silo-harvester with a pick-up device and by a conventional bale press with a battering device. The greatest technical achievement measured was performed by the cylindrical bale forming press (12,4 t/ha). The advantage of the silo-harvester is that it gathers and cuts the mass. In the maize stalks taken by the machines analysed there was less than 1% of soil. The greatest technical surface achievement was performed by the conventional bale press with the battering device when moving in the opposite direction of that of reaping and making maize stalk stacks.
