Season of calving influence and importance on milk production and fertility of cows

The study was carried out on 147 cows of European Friesian breed which have finished first lactation. Cows were divided into groups according to the season of calving: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The following was determined: the longest service period was noticed with the cows which delivered offspring in winter and spring (147 and 157 days), and the shortest period service was noticed with the cows calving in summer and autumn (139 and 138 days); the greatest milk production had those calving in winter and spring (4339 and 4311 kg), and the least had those calving in summer and autumn (3894 and 4149 kg). The content of fat in milk was lower with cows calving in winter and spring (3,75 and 3,74%), and higher with those calving in summer and autumn (3,80 and 3,80%). The majority of cows were calving in autumn and winter - 57,1% and the rest were calving in spring and autumn -42,9%, which is more convenient for the market. The conclusion is that the results obtained about the milk production are the consequence of the adequate feeding in given seasons.
