Studies on the breeding biology of the Clarias batrachus in and around Mymensingh, Bangladesh for a period of twelve months reveal that it has a single spawning season in a year which lasts from May to July. Gonadosomatic index varies considerably in both the sexes, reaching the peak in the month of June. However, after the breeding season the variation was small. Fat bodies were much higher in amount prior to the breeding season. The structure, length and weight of the gonads were also studied to find out changes occurring during the experimental period
