Digital processing of mulli-date landsat MSS data of Barind tract in Rajshahi district [of Bangladesh]

Land cover features of Barind Tract which is situated in the North Western region of Bangladesh were investigated using the Landsat MSS data of the years 1973, 1977 and 1984. The analysis of the digital data was done in the interactive image processing systems (1(2)S) and Vizir Image Processing Systems (VIPS) of SPARRSO. The visual study of Landsat imagery has clearly shown that the zonal characteristics of this region is quite different from the surrounding areas during dry period. During this period, this area is very dry and has very low level of vegetation compared to its surrounded areas. Remote sensing techniques, can be a very useful tool to study the condition of the Land-use pattern in the Barind Tract region. In the present study different image analysis techniques including the principal component analysis were used to extract maximum information from the satellite imagery on the Land-use features of the study area. Unsupervised and supervised classifications were performed and different classes each representing feature have been identified.
