The author forewarns that there would be a shortage of 185 million cubic feet of fuelwood and 60 million cubic feet of timber by the year 2000. He has also thrown light on the successes and failures of the Forest Department in connection with some afforestation and reafforestation programmes. Then, the author goes on to describe the importance and the prospects of homestead forests in Bangladesh in the face of the existing fuelwood crisis. Finally, the author emphasizes the need for further research on homestead forests in Bangladesh so that new strategies and measures can be evolved for their improvement.
