Nitrate reductase activity (NRA) in leaves at 60, 90 and 120 days after sowing and protein content of grain and grain yield at harvest were determined in 12 wheat genotypes in two experiments during 1978-79 and 1979-80. Correlation studies between NRA at different stages with protein content and grain yield per spike were also made. Significant genotypic variations in NRA were observed at all the stages. The variations on the basis of two years' data were 1.5, 2.0 and 2.2-fold at 60, 90 and 120th day of sowing, respectively. Genotypes also showed significant variation in grain protein content. NRA was significantly and positively correlated with grain protein in both the years
