Xylazine hydrochloride a non-narcotic sedative and analgetic with muscle-relaxing effects is widely used in domestic and wild animals. Ruminants appear to be more sensitive to its effects than horses, dogs and cats (Hopkins, 1972). The effects of xylazine on cardiovascular system and blood biochemical constituents have been reported in buffaloes and single-humped camels (Peshin and Kumar, 1979; Peshin et al., 1978, 1980, its effects on blood gases and acid-base statusin these species have been evaluated
