Effect of soil salinity on nitrogen and carbon mineralization and on growth of corn Zea mays L. (in Iraq)

The effect of different levels of salinity in two soils of different textural closses silty clay and sandy loam on microbial activity (Carbon dioxide evolution), N minerilization, nitrification and ammonia volatilization, was studied. The study showed that there is a significant, negative correlation (P0.01) between the increasing of salinity levels and period of germination, plants height, dry matter weight, total leaves area and total N content in shoots. The statistical analysis showed that there were no significant differences in amount of (NO2+NO3) that developes in soils at salinity levels (5.0, and 7.1 mmhos/cm) as well as at the levels (12.1, 17.8, 24.0 and 30.0 mmhos/cm)
