Effect of date of harvesting on the oil content of different varieties of olive trees

To study the effect of date of harvesting on the oil content of olive trees, six olive varieties named Nabali, Rasei, Nasohi, Grosadi, Ascolano, and Shami were taken in the Baqa'a Valley- Hussain Nursery. Fruit samples were taken at random at the following dates: October 5, 12, 19, 26 and November 5. Samples were tested for oil percent. The results indicated that Nabali, Ascolano and Nasohi varieties did not show significant differences in their oil content at 0.05 and 0.01 level of significance at the above dates of harvesting. Shami variety showed significant difference at 0.05 level while Grosadi and Rasei varieties showed significant differences at 0.01 level. It was concluded that the best date of harvesting, with regard to oil content for Rasei and Grosadi varieties was the fifth of October and for Shami variety was the fifth of November
