A new rive variety "Yeongdeogbyeo" was developed from a cross of Nagdongbyeo//Pebihun/Kanto 98//Kanto 100 at the Yeongnam Crops Experiment Station of Rural Development Administration. Its heading date was about 7 days earlier than that of Chucheongbyeo. Yeongdeogbyeo has a good plant type with narrow and erect leaves. It was resistant to stripe and dwarf virus, but susceptible to major insect pests and diseases such as blast, bacterial leaf blight, sheath blight, and black streaked dwarf virus. This variety was moderately resistant to lodging, and wind injury such as grain sterility and discoloration caused by wind. Its grain appearance and eating quality were similar to those of Chucheongbyeo
