Experiment was conducted to investigate the application timing and the rates of cattle manure with its effects on rice yield in undeveloped paddy soil. Cattle manure was applied at three different times (15, 30 and 60 days before transplanting) and four rates (0, 1, 2 and 3 MT/10a; moisture 70 % basis). The optimum timing of cattle manure application was 30 days before transplanting, and maximum manure rates were 3.4 MT/10a by regression equation. Nutrients content in the rice plants increased in the manure of high-rate plots, but decreased in the chemically fertilized plot. Soil total carbon and nitrogen contents measured at harvest increased with manure rate applied but generally was not affected by timing of application. Cattle manure was a good source of organic matter for nitrogen
