Influence of spray volume and additive on the efficacy of Cloproxidim against grassweeds in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) and peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.)

Cloproxidim at 0.50 kg ai/ha controlled Rottboellia cochinchinensis (Lour.) Clayton (=Rottboellia exaltata L.f.) seedlings up to 5- to 7-leaf stage. Better control was obtained at 0.75 kg ai/ha but crop yields was not significantly different from that obtained using 0.5 kg ai/ha. The effectiveness of preemergence pendimethalin at 1.00 kg ai/ha was comparable to that of the lower rate of cloproxidim in terms of weed control and crop yields. The spray volume of 300 liters herbicide/ha was the best followed by 200 liters/ha in controlling weeds and increasing crop yields. Surfactant Triton CS-7 or ammonium sulfate improved the effectiveness of cloproxidim in terms of weed control and crop yield. Much better control and crop yield were obtained when both additives were used with the herbicide. Soybean and peanut were tolerant to cloproxidim at all rates used at 0.50 kg ai/ha and at different spray volumes with or without additives, cloproxidim did not in any way alter the tolerance of these crops to the herbicide
