Kernels of the following maize hybrids were tested: ZP-448, ZPSC-46A, ZPSC-58C, ZPSC-6, ZPSC-71C, ZPSC-4 and ZPSC-74 O2. The results: 1) standard hybrids have oil content below 5,5% (usual content), except for ZPSC-46A which is moderately rich in oil. Opaque hybrid has more oil than standard hybrids; 2) oil content is the highest in the germ - 30,13% to 34,03%, in endosperm - 1,19% to 1,55% and in pericarp 1,06% to 1,92%; 3) Almost 80% of oil in kernel is in its germ, 20% in endosperm, 1-2% in pericarp, 4) maize oil basically consists of palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids; 5) Lower percentages of palmitoleic, margarine, linolenic+arachinic and behenic acids are also identified; 6) Opaque hybrid differs from the standard ones in percentage of fatty acids in its oil.
