Non-transmission of cacao (Theobroma cacao) swollen shoot virus by Phenacoccus manihoti Mat-Ferr in Ghana
1988
Owusu, G.K. (Cocoa Research Inst., Tafo (Ghana))
The establishment and reproduction of the cassava mealybug Phenacoccus manihoti was investigated to ascertain the possibility of it being a vector of cacao swollen shoot virus (CSSV). Both the nymphs and adults were allowed to feed on cacao seedlings infected with severe strain, IA (New Juabeng) of CSSV and then transferred to cacao beans for transmission feeding. P. manihoti did not establish or reproduce on cacao and did not transmit CSSV to cacao seedlings
