The behaviour of 24 own-rooted rootstocks was studied in areas of Chania and Messara, Crete. The tested species, hybrids and varieties of Citrus aurantium and Citrus sinensis showed very high degree of adaptability. The number of seeds per fruit and their viability were satisfactory. The tangelos hybrids showed sensitivity to low temperatures. The species Citrus limonia showed excellent adaptability and high production, although they were sensitive to Deuterophoma tracheiphila. The Poncirus trifoliata showed some delay in growth due to sensitivity in CaCO3. The hybrids of citranges did well and showed resistance to phytopathological diseases
