Mittal, J.P. (Central Arid Zone Research Inst., Jodhpur (India))
The indigenous breeds Marwari and Jamunapari did not differ from each other in any libido trait and in any semen characteristics studied, under arid conditions at Jodhpur. Same was with the crossbreds (Alpine x Jamunapari and Saanen x Jamunapari). The crossbred bucks required longer time for first mount and first ejaculation, and had lower number of ejaculations in 30 min than purebreds. The values for motile and live sperms were lower, and for abnormal sperm and MBRT higher in crossbred bucks. Season had no effect on any of these traits in indigenous bucks. Significantly lower values for all the libido characteristics were recorded during summer season in1278both the crosses. The results of this study indicated that Jamunapari bucks can successfully be used for upgradation of desert goats and there is little scope for introduction of any crossbred buck in Indian arid z
