Haematological studies in Lanka cattle

Some haematological parameters have been investigated in Lanka cattle, breed indigenous of Sri Lanka. The mean value for the erythrocyte count was comparable to both European and Indian breeds. The haemoglobin content was below the level in European breeds but above the mean for Indian breeds. The total leukocyte count was comparable to that of Haryana cattle whereas the differential leukocyte count compared more favourably with that of Gir cattle. Variations observed in PCV, MCV and MCHC are discussed
