Studies on the chromosome number of some species of Amaranthus plant

The chromosome number of Amaranthus was investigated. It showed that the chromosome number of 8 sp. of Amaranthus including 4 sp. of A. paniculatus and 4 sp. of A. caudatus is 2n=32, 2n=34, and one of A. caudatus is 2n=30, which is different from that reported by Grant, william F. (1959). According to Grant, the chromosome number of Amaranthus is 2n=32 and 2n=34, except A. dubius (2n=64). The different pretreatment methods for dispersing the chromosomes and the time for taking tested materials from plants are discussed.
