Some suggestions on utilization and amelioration of the vegetation of the arid valleys in the Hengduan Mountain Area [China]

The community, which is dominated by some drought-enduring scrubs and grasses developed in the arid valleys in the Heng-duan Mountainous Region, is one of the particular and important landscape types of vegetation. According to the difference of heat quantity and vegetation in the region, the arid valleys were divided into 3 kinds: the hot-arid, the warm-arid and the temperate-arid. This paper briefly reviews the conditions for utilization of the arid valleys and the direction for amelioration of the vegetations. According to the principles of making full use of heat resources and the natural resources, and in order to avoid or adapt to the drought in the region, this paper makes some suggestions on the amelioration of the natural vegetation and on the development of agriculture, forestry, economic plant and animal husbandry.
