Effect of epibrassinolide upon the physiological properties and yield of wheat

Epibrassinolide (BR) was used in this study to spray wheat plant during the booting stage and filling period. It was found that when in low concentration (0.01-0.05 ppm), BR could accelerate the movement of total soluble carbohydrates in the flag leaf during the filling period; make the soluble protein content of the flag leaf consistent; increase the developing seed activity; reduce the accumulation of free ammonia (NH3) and putrescine under the stress condition; decrease the cell membrane permeability of the functional leaves in the lower parts of wheat plant. Grains per spike and thousand-grain weight were increased, infertile spikelets reduced compared to the control. The results show that BR is effective on the improvement of wheat yield.
