The effects of plant spacing and number of plants per stand on grain yield of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) cultivar Framida
1986
Mahama, A.A.
A 90-day grain sorghum variety, Framida was studied under 3 plant spacings and 4 different plant densities to evaluate the effect on grain yield. Increasing the number of plants per stand suppressed tillering, while narrowing of spacing had no apparent effect. Narrowing of spacing and increasing the number of plants per stand decreased grain yield per plant, grain number per plant, leaf area per plant and total above ground dry matter per plant. Grain weight showed no significant variation. Larger grain yield, shoot dry matter and leaf area per plant caused by decreasing plant density did not sufficiently compensate for loss in yield per hectare
