Influence of the bacterial insecticide (Bactospeine) on survival and development of three lepidopterous insects

The efficacy of Bactospeine (wp contains 3% Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner) against the first three larval instars of Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd), S. exigua (HBn), Agrotis ipsilon (Hbn), Agrotis ipsukin (Hbn) studied under plastic house conditions. First-instar larvae were more susceptible to all concentrations of Bactospeine (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, g/L.) when the first three larval instars fed on Bactospeine treated tomato seedling for five days increased mortality was evident with high dosages. The larvae were able to recover after short-term feeding on Bactospeine treated plants. Larval and pupal development delayed and pupal weight decreased, when the first larval instar of the three insects were allowed to feed on tomato seedlings treated with Bactospeine at rate of 0.5 g/1 for three days. Adults originated from Bactospeine treated larval showed decreased longevity fecundity, and reduction of egg hatchability. Bactospeine was more effective during the first three days after application
