Widespread pesticide use poses a great threat to community health. Several studies have confirmed the presence of significant residues of organochlorine pesticides in the diet of man and measurable quantities in human milk. Pesticides intake and resultant poisoning of non-target species has reached alarming proportions. Contamination can be related to the widespread indiscriminate, uncontrolled, unmonitored and excessive use of pesticides, often in situations where properly supervised application of pesticides would confine them to target areas and at concentrations necessary for their beneficial use without damage to the environment. Several control measures listed in the text are helpful in minimizing contamination
