Pathogenicity and cultural characteristics of protoplast-regenerated isolates (PRI) of Pyricularia oryzae were compared with those of mother isolates. For pathogenicity test, each thirty PRI from four mother isolates (KA84-431, race KI-307; KA84-419, race KI-315b; KA85-343, race KJ-105; KA85-342, race KJ-301) were obtained and inoculated to Korean differential set. As a result, all the PRIO originated from isolate KA84-431 showed non-pathogenic reaction and those originated from other three mother isolates lost 13% to 56% of their pathogenicity. However, no significant differences were found for speed of mycelial growth, mycelial dry weight, sporulation and percent conidia germination between pathogenic and non-pathogenic isolates of PRI and mother isolates
