Character association analysis in peas
1986
Padua, D.P.
Fresh pod yield was positively correlated with flowering, leaf area index (LAI), dry matter production (DMP), plant height, number of branches per plant, number of flowers per plant and number of pods per plant but negatively correlated with harvest index (HI). Flowering, number of pods per plant and DMP had the largest and direct total contributions to the fresh pod yield thus, are the most useful selection indices for yield. Further gain in selection could be realized if plant height, LAI, and the number of flowers per plant are also included as selection indices. For high fresh pod yield, the ideal pea plant should be late in flowering, have high number of pods per plant, high DMP, high LAI, high number of flowers per plant and should be relatively tall.
