Wheat production constraints in tropical environments
1988
Klatt, A.R. (ed.)
These proceedings include papers delivered at the Conference on Wheat Production Constraints in Tropical Environments held at Chiang Mai, Thailand, in January 1987. Contributed papers describe and analyze the range of environments in the tropical wheat zones of the world, the constraints of the rice-wheat rotation, the effect of high temperatures on the wheat plant, the management of limiting factors to increase wheat production, the problem of plant establishment, the limitations in water availability, the turnaround time between rice and wheat, the requirements of macro and micronutrients, the pest and disease problems and control, and the breeding strategies needed to resolve these constraints. The case of Bangladesh as a tropical country where wheat production has been a success is discussed. Some other topics dealt with in this conference were: fertilizer management, aluminum toxicity tolerance, seed storage, importance of government policies, and future research priorities
